I probably should have answered the question, which is neither.
:)

After dropping to zero nicotine about 14 months ago now I only vape for...
  • Something to do with my hands
  • The hand-to-mouth action
  • Watching the exhaled vapor
  • A bit of throat hit
I'm not someone who cares a whole lot about the flavor.
(As evidenced by the fact that I have vaped dill pickle and blue cheese flavors)

It's everything for me but the nic is very important. As an ex-smokeless user I found if I don't get nic I get a "fuzziness in my brain" (don't know a better way to describe it) that can actually be painful when not getting nic. Has always been that way when trying to quit. The vaping prevents the fuzziness. The variety of flavors keep things from being boring.

I started vaping to quit smoking. I enjoyed smoking, but worried about long term health risks. I also didn't like the smoke smell on my clothes, but that was a given if you smoked.

Vaping was an easy way to quit smoking and still enjoy the hand to mouth actions of smoking. It was an easy transition for me once I decided to move from smoking to vaping. I found that I had zero desire to smoke again once I made the change. That was surprising, but an actuality.

Like you read my mind. I actually had zero intention of quitting. I figured with these little ecig deals, maybe I wouldn't need to smoke 2 packs a day like I'd been doing for the last 35 years. Within a week, I was down to my morning cigarette with coffee....That's the one I would never let go of. Two days later, that one was gone too. That was over 5 years ago. I honestly haven't missed cigarettes once. And I loved those things.

I smoked cigs went to a pipe ages ago. I developed a cough and changed to the vaporizer. I started at 18 mg nicotine and it was easy to switch to the vaporizer, I used a tobacco flavor that had no taste but the urge to pick up the pipe stopped after time. I'm at 3 mg nicotine now cutting down gradually. I'm after flavor and make my own liquid and there are enough tobacco flavors out there, I'd say the DIY the flavors out there are better than what you can buy. I also make my own coils, it's become kind of a hobby for me.

I love my flavors, have fun playing with my vape gear, but if I mixed a 0 nic juice with the same flavors I have little doubt I would be eyeing a pack of cigarettes again. I'm only about a year and a half out, so hopefully in the future that will no longer be true.

Glad you were able to use vaping to give up smoking.

I've told my story several times on ECF. At the end of the first week vaping I was still smoking, but I quickly dropped from 2 PAD down to about 6 cigs a day without realizing or thinking about it. I kept on smoking after meals and with coffee and vaping mostly. After a period of time I decided to finish the pack and not buy any more.

The big surprise was that I never missed them after doing that. It's been 6 years and I haven't had any desire at all to smoke again, even when someone smoked around me. Vaping at 10 watts was enough to forget cigarettes, even after I dropped gradually from 24mg juice to 3mg juice.

I actually went to 0 nic once and it was boring for me. I missed that little nic bite even from 3mg juice. The journey from 24mg down to 3mg was an easy task, but 0 made me miss that little bit of nic in the vapor, so I've stayed content at 3mg/ml for the last couple or three years.

Losing the tar and cigarette carcinogens was the important part for me. The nic, not so much. Nic isn't the killer, in fact, according to medical articles it's somewhat beneficial to mental acuity and memory the older you get.
