What I don't understand is why the world thinks nicotine is ultra-addictive and will GET YOU.
I mean, seriously? Like, seriously?

Everyone is different.
Lots of people drink lost of alcohol and never become an alcoholic.
Lots of people never get cancer.
Lots of people are born without mental illness.
Lots of people never suffer from dementia.

Some people live for 100 years.
Some people get lung cancer, some people get skin cancer.
Some people are schizophrenic.

Why is it that we are all so different?
And why is nicotine supposed to be the magical exception to this rule.

Hmmmmmm...

All very good questions. I had someone say to me "but there is still nicotine in there" My answer....it isn't the nicotine that kills, it is the 1000's of other chemicals. That stopped them in their tracks and no more needed to be said.

I smoked for over 40 years...I don't understand the "buzz" part. I never got a "buzz" from cigarettes. (don't from vaping either)

It was pretty much a switch of brands for me...I still have all the same actions that I enjoyed...and fantastic flavors !

I have lowered my nic bit by bit as time has gone by but that is because the levels that I was at would start making me sweat and nauseous.

I won't go totally 0 nic...I get total brain fog and concentration goes out the window. AND I believe that nic is not bad for me, similar to coffee.

Yes you may be correct. .. obviously when I first started vaping over 6 years ago I was addicted to cigs and when I started vaping I went with 24mg because that was the norm. After 35 years of smoking I honestly thought it was the nic I was addicted to and because ecigs effectively stopped my urges, I believed this even more so. I'm still vaping 24mg and have no desire to lower, but now, even though I'm vaping a strong nic level, I know I can just quite vaping cold turkey and not withdrawal. I have tried this recently and didn't vape for 3 days and I had no I'll effects what so ever. So what does this all mean? Personally I think the nic in a cig is addictive but not in an ecig. I really don't know this for sure, but it's interesting. Maybe it takes longer then 3 days to feel the effects? Perhaps

Great answer from DC2, vapdivrr,mattiem & classwife!
Nicotine without all the other additives in cigarettes is not addictive.
There isn't a single study that shows it to be addictive as PH,TC and the FDA have all been claiming. This claim was based on a self experiment done before 1856 I think. Regardless of the stigma of "alleged nic addiction" nobody can make you feel bad about smoking or vaping unless you allow them to.
Tell those folks the facts about nicotine....It isn't more addictive than illicit drugs as they love to claim!

I understand the buzz....power smoking 3 cigs in a 15 minute break then stand up and try to regain your balance. The only buzz I got from vaping was my body telling me I got a new atty and its delivering better also that I'm building coils that are too good so its time to cut the nic back some. Now with the using of claptons, more multi wire builds and dabbling a bit with SS and nickle wires I'm cutting my nic down again from 9 to 6. Been vaping 9 now for almost 2 years but claptons and other multi wire builds for @ 6 months now and getting a light head if I inhale a good pull, if I just mouth vape(not inhale) I'm ok but one can't always do mouth vapes without the accidental inhale.

I have to wonder why it is such a "big deal" for many of you to lower your nic intake?
That wasn't a big part of the equation for many of us when I started so I wonder why it is now?
Do you on some level, believe that nicotine is addictive or harmful so you have to "do away with it"?
If not why are you lowering your levels?
Congrats on being 90 days smoke free Riplea!

All very interesting to read :) an what DC2 said certainly does apply to me, it was always an escape thing for me.
I suppose it's the same with vaping too, & it's still a nerve thing for me. It does definitely calm me down.
And if 24mg helps you it doesn't matter, I still find I need at least 18mg to stay off cigarettes

I'm just going to suggest something, because it's true for me.
That doesn't mean it's true for you though.

Just something to consider for you, and for everyone reading this...
:)

Cigarettes did not calm me down so much as other things involved in the smoking ritual..
  • Getting away from the world for 15 minutes
  • Watching the swirling smoke while considering things
  • The rhythmic breathing of inhale/exhale
  • Something to keep my hands occupied while my mind wanders

I could sit in front of my computer trying to figure out a problem and get nowhere fast.
Then I'd go for a smoke break and figure out what to do in the first 3 minutes.

And I am pretty sure that's not just me.
But then again, I'm also sure it doesn't apply to everyone either.
:)

But, yeah, just something to consider.

This was always the way I did things too.........the above paragraph describes me to a T.........

I suspect that applies to many of us.

I also suspect it was common to attribute that to calming effects instead of heightened cognizance.

It was exactly the same for me. I'd be in a computer room for a couple of hours struggling with a machine problem and computer rooms were non-smoking areas even when smoking was allowed everywhere. I'd go out to the smoking area, light up, and smoke a couple. Getting my mind off the problem and into the outside world did the trick most of the time.

Background mental processing can be better than forced concentration!
