So from what I have read, the standard dilution rate for the crystals is 1/4 tsp to 10ml pg. I did this with crystals I got from Wizard Labs. I was just looking at the description for the crystals on the WL site and it says;

"8ml glass vial
This equals 1/4 Tsp. or approximately 7 grams dry weight."

Ethyl Maltol Crystals (TFA)

So I'm confused...my 1/4 tsp spoon is tiny, like the size of my thumbnail. The WL site says the 8ml vial is 1/4 Tsp. Am I supposed to mix the full 8ml vial of crystals with 10ml pg, or is that just a typo on the WL site?

Thanks.

I got the same thing, didn't think anything of it. Mixed the crystals with 10ml of PG in a 30ml bottle. Shook it, heated it, let it sit for weeks ... all the crystals never dissolved.

I google "8ml in tablespoons" and find that 8ml is 0.541024 tablespoons. I'm slowly adding a ml of PG every few days to try and get it to all dissolve. So far, I'm at about 15ml, and it still haven't all disolved. Though I have stuck a syringe in there to get some EM for some liquids I was making.

My suggestion would be to measure out 1/4 tbs, and go from there.

Oh, and while you're doing that, measure the rest and let me know how much was in there! hah

This is where your problem might be. Are you using tbsp or tsp? Everything I have read said tsp...

Ethyl Maltol has a density of: 1.261 g/cm3
And 1 cm3 == 1ml
And 1/4 tsp == 1.23 ml

That gives us 1.23 ml * 1.26 g/ml == 1.56 g
Which means that 1/4 tsp diluted to 10ml is a 16%. This irks me. But I'm guessing that density might be for crushed powder and the crystals might be a bit less dense getting it closer to the 10% we're trying to get. I gave up trying to figure out the 1/4 Tsp / 7g stuff. It's probably supposed to be: tsp = teaspoon, Tsp = tablespoon. And 1/2 tbsp = 7.39 ml. If the crystals are less dense than the powder, that could get you close to 7g. And the rest I leave up to just general packing issues, they may be weighing 7g and putting it into the 8ml tube which is possibly really a 2 fluiddram(1/4 floz) 7.4ml bottle with enough extra room to hold about 8ml if filled past the neck.

OK, I think I follow. So if I mix with 10ml pg, I only use a hint of the 8ml bottle they sent me as opposed to the full 8ml of crystals, right?

I mix 1/4 tsp of crystals with 10ml of vg and it comes out the same as if you bought the pre mixed Ethyl Maltol(10%)VG version.

The 1/4 tsp crystals will disolve completely. I put the crystals in an emtpy bottle first then add the vg. shake it up good. loosen the cap and put in the microwave for 4 to 5 seconds. retighten the cap and shake it until the crystals desolve completely. it only takes a minute or 2.

Yeah, just use 1/4 tsp (teaspoon). It helps greatly heat the liquid but I wouldn't put it in the microwave. I put a mug of water in the microwave and heat that up hot like for tea, but not boiling. And then put the bottle with EM+PG in that to get it nice and warm, then shake like mad.

I first tried just puttin 1/4 tsp in a plastic graduated cylinder and filling it to the 10ml mark with PG, but stirring didn't really help disolving it much, and even after leaving it out overnight it still wasn't disolved. As soon as I put it down in some hot water for a bit it dissolved right away.
