This may be of interest to travellers. I received the following response to my query about usage of e-cigs:

Thank you for emailing Etihad Airways Sydney Ticket Office.

Etihad Airways banned the smoking of e-cigarettes on our flights effective 10 May 2009.
Furthermore, these cigarettes have been banned for sale in the United Arab Emirates after an order was received from the General Secretariat of Municipalities.

I would therefore, ask that you respect the decision taken by Etihad that although you can carry them on your person, you are not permitted to operate/smoke these e-cigarettes during our flights. Failure to comply with the crew's instructions may result in the aircraft veing met by local authorities at your final destination.

Thank you for your understanding.

Kind regards.
