Maybe someone else has had problems with DIY and/or rebuilding coils too and i wish i thought faster about what i was doing wrong! After a while vaping i started with RBAs and Diy juice at pretty much the same time. It has not gone well. I have felt so horrible about my slipping back to smoking as a result. After investing into stocking up,i had no more to spend and had to make things work. All my DIY juice was harsh, almost couldnt use it. I made myself suffer with harsh juice while trying to make something better. Lots of fiddeling and no winning for months. Finally i decided it could be my base. This morning i tried plain base with a rba, harsh. Decided maybe its the cotton. I put it into a premade coil and all went well! So great, least i dont have to throw away all my base i bought! skipping foward a little, after investigating further i fear i have been vaping cotton!!! Im sure now i have been packing to much cotton in there and was burning/vaping cotton!!!! I am FREAKED OUT and its too early to start drinking, lol. I should just be happy i suppose, i have lots of juice and base that i can vape but i am freaked too.
Anywho,i just wanted to throw this out there in case anyone else has this issue,it could be just to much cotton.....

We need some more info before we can help you out.

What is the nic strength you are vaping in your juice? What is the VG/PG ratio, what wattage are you vaping at, what cotton are you using, what kind of wire are you using and what coils are you building?

Let's start off by getting your answers to those question then we can move forward. Other people may chime in with other questions as well.

I wish i had come back here while i was fighting it but i have it sorted now. First time in months i enjoyed my juice! Almost instantly back to all vape no smoke. I SO wish i came and ask but i really thought i was just making terrible juice! Then frustrated with myself i have avoided even speaking here. Turns out the juice i made myself, that i thought was going in the trash is actually pretty tasty. I posted just in case someone else has the issue of everything being harsh.

I am very happy to hear that you found your problem but like you I do wish you had come here with your problem instead of suffering in silence.
I should have known better. I have no doubt with some talking you guys could have straightened me right out! I just felt terrible after all that stocking and then everything went wrong and that led back to smoking. So happy i finally found the issue instead of giving up!

I think I can speak for most of us in saying "We are very proud of you". It is great that you were persistent and are back to vaping instead of giving up.

Well I, first off, am so glad you found a solution and are back to vaping! :) Congrats. Yeah, I decided I would start with one or the other for just that reason... Both seemed complicated, so I got small amounts of base materials, and just forced myself to sit down, read, and use a juice calculator and whatnot. I loved my first juice, so that was great.

That being said, if you want help for the future, if you have any cotton wicks that you made that you can post pictures of, I am certain the builders here can help you figure out what the problem was/is so you don't repeat it and still get a satsifying vape, which would be ideal. Most ppl report building their own coils as quite satisfying, so I'm certain you can make it work :)

Don't be too hard on Yourself.

Many people have been on the Same Road as you were on. Many. And unfortunately, some never got Off It and found the Better Path.

DIY and Coil Building can/do take a bit of Trial and Error. And the More things that are changed, the Harder it is to Figure Out what is Going On.

    :)

I went with the subtank mini and at first i had no problem with learning how to do it but i guess over time i started without knowing getting that cotton thicker and thicker. I came pretty close to throwing it all out,so mad. Now so glad i didnt! Next time i wont get so far off before showing my face and asking for help!

Im still kinda freaked out it seems ive been practically vaping cotton though. My anxiety has been through the roof once i figured that out. Least its past lunch and im having an early glass of wine!

    JMO.

But inhaling a Small amount of Burnt e-Liquid and Cotton is still probably Better than Inhaling a Large Amount of Burning Tobacco and the Added Chemicals they put in Cigarettes.

    ;)

Glad you got things sorted out @Breezy Dawn !

Just a suggestion for others getting into building and DIY at the same time.....

Test and try your build with a known juice you like and know how it should taste. And conversely, test/try your DIY with know and proven gear.

Wicking is a huge part of how a tank/rda vapes. It took me months to figure out how much cotton to use, now that've got it down I can re-wick a kf5 in under five minutes. Best advice I can give you is ALWAYS have a tank that uses prebuilt coils ready to go until you get building down. Cotton is great but it's very finicky and you can't really go by what someone else does because there's too many variables in play.

You've got nothing to worry about, I breathe in worse chemicals at work (dang pipe fitters with their tig welders) than you possibly could with cotton.

Without realizing it,i started cutting my cotton too thick. It was burning up and i thought it was just gunky, but no it was burny! Now that i thinned it back alot, the taste is like it used to be. I have NO idea how i started messing it up so bad

Oh the my goodness, yes! Job sites can be fun. Come to think about it though i guess after being electrocuted, hit in the head by a huge pipe wrench (rebel without a hardhat) and trapped in a elevator when the power went out...ect! I shouldnt be so worried about that cotton eh? LOL
