I'd like to know the medical reason for this.
Taste bud overload doesn't answer it for me. Otherwise Budweiser would taste funny by 2am.

Sometimes its not loss of taste, but a completely strange flavor.
I had an overload of peppermint recently. Later in the day, I put a peppermint livesaver in my mouth and it produced the same horrible taste. Next day was fine.

vaping straight pg/vg or with unflavored nic to stop the joneses may help.
Also helps clean the atty out.

I'm an MD but really couldn't give you an honest medical reason, jazdale...I find the juice or vapor starts to lightly coat my lips and/or tongue and that shuts down my taste buds. That's why I always suggest brushing teeth, gargling, drinking water, etc., etc. Lather, rinse, repeat...yadda...yadda...yadda :p

BTW, love the avatar :) Meant to mention that to you in a much earlier thread and forgot!

Mary Kay,
Does 'clean vape' mean the juice you use to cleanse your pallette?
I have a huge bottle (180 ml) of peppermint patricia to trade with you. PM if interested.

Kanza,
thanks for the info.

Interesting thread. I was not aware of some of this, but it makes sense now that I have given it some thought.

On the topic of muted flavors, I've noticed recently when using an 18mg Green Tea flavor that the first few hits taste very good. After this the taste starts to become much more muted for me and it takes a little bit before it taste as good again. The 11mg Green Tea does not seem to suffer from this for me. Not sure what the difference between the two is besides the nicotine. Just thought I would share.

These have been all great suggestions! I knew I could count on you purples!

The brushing has helped a lot, and I am waiting for my peppermint! My main flavors are the chocolates. I found that when I have too many flavors, I get overwhelmed, not just from all the different tastes, but just being able to keep stuff organized. Too much stuff makes me feel out of control, but that's a different (personality) problem!

I've read that some of you have specific color batteries, to match your cart flavors. This may have to be the route I take. Maybe the experience of all the senses, with the color, taste, and smell will mentally add to the flavor. Sorry, I have a BA in psychology, which makes me overthink things!

LOL, no thanks on the pumpkin!

When you feel lost in anything you do...you become overwhelmed :) I used multi-colored bats and carts and drip tubes to help remind me what exactly I have in the cart :p I gave up that system when my juice collection grew to ridiculous proportions and now use a tiny stick-on dot that Avery makes. I put a symbol or number in it that corresponds to the mix or juice that's in the cart and I feel in control again :)

Jaz...once upon a time, a very long time ago...I went for a ride in the very original Batmobile :) The one from the Adam West TV show. What was best of all, my grandfather was driving it :p Now THAT was a strange day! I don't remember why it was "living" in Winfield, Kansas...but it was :)

Sometimes you just have to go a day vaping something different.

I was on the search for the perfect menthol. With V4L and a few other companies I went on menthol overload! Vaped some fruity flavors for a day and menthol was fine again.

I think(now I have no medical grounds to back this up) between the taste buds healing from their tar baths and the way most people vape which is much more than they used to smoke(not a universal truth), the taste buds kind have a few days that they just are no good. A lot of people talk about how some days they just can't taste anything then things are fine again.

Just my thoughts I hope they help.

Yes the peppermint cleans the old tastes out nicely! I am also a matching freak. Love the carto colors matching the batt colors.
Gold RY4, Pink Peppermint, Black Wowboy, Blue Wow Razz, Green Smilin, Purple..c'mon..grape! Silver/chrome Doc Pepper.

Been running into this myself... so started experimenting and created a nice banana split flavor by topping off a choco-banana cool cart with wow pina colada... woke my mouth right up for a while. Spun on a cool cart Smilin special afterward and the chocolate hint really came out over the menthol. Very nice!

So I think like the others said... changing some things up a bit may help.

jazdale...wish I could say I was a kid, but I wasn't :p My grandfather was in his 70's and a friend of the owner? designer? builder? of the Batmobile so he got the keys! <RATS> But it was still fun because we got to cruise the park (which was like an island surrounded by a moat of water) along with all the kids in their custom jobs...and did we get the impressed looks!

I know I was told why it was in this small town in Kansas but that was too many decades ago...I simply don't remember why but I will always remember the ride :)

Yes, I think that's right...do you have ANY clue why the batmobile was living in Kansas? Now I am going to go nuts trying to remember why <sigh> My mother was with us but she is now in a nursing home and is living in her own world, so to speak, so I can't ask her. Come to think of it, I think there were two or three batmobiles made at the same time but I could be in the midst of a memory leak about the "volume" of batmobiles :p

Susden.....I really cannot add anymore to what everyone else has said. I too am having one of those days....after a few hits, no flavor....switch to another flavor...same thing....a couple hits and then stale. The best advice is what everyone else has already stated....peppermint, menthol, anything that is stronger......

Medically, the only thing I can figure is that it is sensory overload.....possibly exacerbated by seasonal issues...allergies and such. Think about how ice cream works...the first few bites and it is flavor heaven....by the end of the bowl the strong heavenly taste is very muted.....now I know I vape a flavor much longer than I eat ice cream....so that makes sense. Another analogy....when you overwork your muscles....well, they eventually give out and scream "NO MORE" hence only being able to lift a certain weight so many times.....so my theory is that our delicate little taste buds are getting overworked.

Well, that's my :2c: for whatever it's worth:D
