I've been reading up on the evic and seems like a pretty cool fancy gadget...but I'm cheap. Can I buy just the control head and continue to use it with my existing ego-c gear? It seems the evic uses a 18650 battery so I'm not sure if that would be compatible with my existing ego-c batteries.

The cheapest control head I found was for $39
Joyetech eVic Control Head; Could choose Battery Tube ($10.00/pc) [EVIC002] - US$39.90 :

Not sure if they sell knock offs for cheaper but would even go that route if it is cheaper. Do you guys think I'd be better off just getting a starter kit or going the control head route. Any super cheap links would be appreciated the control head seems pretty hard to find.

The cheapest starter kit is around $99 that I've found. At that price I'm in no hurry until all of my ego-c parts go bad.

That is a pretty cheap price for the control head. I would confirm with the vendor that it is the updated version with the two set screws to hold the head together, otherwise it WILL break on you. Also, unless you are referring to the 18650 eGo mod as the 'eGo-c' then no they are not compatible. You will need battery tube/top cap and battery to go with it. You can charge it with any micro-usb cable and wall charger, you don't have to have a separate charger for the batteries.

I'm not sure what mod you are talking about. I'm just talking about the standard ego-c batteries that came with starter kit. If those aren't compatible with the head I guess I'm stuck going the evic starter kit route...was hoping they would work with existing batteries as just bought 4 of them for backups.

Update on the starter kit price found one for $79 "GENUINE " Joyetech EVIC KIT but I'm leery of sites and sellers that use the term "GENUINE" in product description...it's like they are trying to prove to you they aren't selling junk.

Can't put an evic head on an eGo batt.... buy Joye stuff at one of the authorized vendors - heaven gifts, cignot, Rocky Mountain, ecigbestsave, good prophets, myvaporstore, TW, others... Joyetech has a list at their site.
