Hi all.

Im new here and have been vaping for 3 months.

I started vaping as replacement for social and stress smoking. So far it's worked well and has even reduced my 2-3x a week hooka habit to twice in 3 months.

I found ECF when looking for a solution to suddenly burning through coils like every 3 days. Despite nothing really being diffrent. Any ideas?

Hello @frizzy_tyger and welcome to the forum. Some juices (sweeter, darker) are simply coil gunkers and will require changing the coils more often.

Congrats on your vape journey. While here you should enter in the contest for the Cloupor giveaway.
ECF is currently running the biggest competitions in the vaping world! Right now we have 600 Cloupor Mini Plus temperature control mods to give away. Click here to take part. ECF members can post in this thread for a chance to win one of 200 set aside, so come and say "hi"!

You'll have to get 5 posts/reply's in order to become a "Full Member" and to enter in the thread contest (has the best odds, currently 1 in 3 will win there).

As a new member you need to get 5 posts/replies in to get full member status and be able to access other areas of the forum. AFTER you get the 5 posts/replies then you have to WAIT till half past the hour for the forum to update/reset and then you are good to go as a Full Member.

You can make a separate post to answer... where are you from... what are you vaping with... whats your favorite juice... etc...

Good luck in your vape journey.

Time to get a rebuildable.
The coil you put will last months, and you just keep rewicking every few days.

If you get a tank like the subtank or goliathv2 and get a 10pack of rba (rebuildable) coil heads, you can put in a fresh coil every day if you want, and rewick the used coils once a week or whenever at your convenience.

.

I do have a tendency to go for sweeter juices so this may be the issue. Though I had originally thought it to not be since the problem has been way worse the past few weeks and I'd used multiple juices.

How difficult would rebuilding exactly? Does it come out to be cheaper? Any guides or how tos if I do decide to go that route?

I have multiple Kanger Subtank Mini's and have been rebuilding for a few months. I found it easy on the build deck of this tank. I would suggest getting a coil jig like the Kuro Koiler (got mine from Fasttech $8, check you tube), and looking at coil builds for which ever tank you decide to work with (you tube again).

Building your own coils is less expensive than buying coils. It's recommended you get an ohm meter ($10) to check the coils for shorts before use.

I use this link to calculate how I want to build my coil (resistance, size of wire, size of diameter) it's simple.

wire, cotton, jig, ohm meter...

I'll look into the rebuilding. Less expensive is always a good thing. Thanks for the info.

What are you using, mod, tank , ohm coils, watts/volts and juice mixture? This info will help us to help you.

I have the Kanger EMOW mega kit. 1.8ohm coils, most of the time I use 3.8 volts but will occasionally use 3.3 or 4.3. I'm not sure about watts? I prefer 25pg/75vg but I have one 20/80 and a few 50/50 all at 6mg nicotine.

"Highlighted in red"

What causes a coil head to wear out or burn out the wicking

1) Excessive heat
2) Compounded with High VG liquids, high VG liquids in a clearomizer wick slowly, if wicking is slow, and high heat, if the wick is not fully saturated with liquid, it burns
3) Overly dark Liquids or colored liquids will carbonize the colorings in the wicking
4) Overly sweet liquids, vanilla, custards, bakery, caramels, liquids with added sweeteners, overly sweet fruit flavors
5) Tobaccos, especially whole tobacco alkaloids (WTA) and Naturally Extracted Tobacco (NET) flavors like dark and colored liquids, these extra tobacco impurities carbonize in the wicking

There are your top 5 coil head killers for premanufactured coil heads.

Does high vg causing more burn and wear mean it shouldn't be used with pre-made coils? or just that it will wear faster? Would the same problem happen with rebuildable?

I honestly don't notice much difference on 4.3 volts than 3.8 so it probably wouldn't make much difference, but I honestly prefer the "feel" of the high vg if that makes any sense. So I'd like to keep using it if theres a way to make it work.

Plenty of YouTube videos on coil making. Just start with a single coil. I use a little blue screwdriver and wrap wire around it. It really isn't that hard to get the basics.

Potentially stupid question, but what is the difference between a single coil and double coil? I know what I currently have a double, but what is the significance of either one?

VG is very thick compared to PG. So a juice with high VG will not wick as well as a lower VG juice, especially with your current setup. If you are getting "dry hits" you can thin down your high VG juice by adding a couple of drops of distilled water (per ml/juice) to your tank.

You can thin higher VG down with distilled water or unflavored vodka/everclear/moonshine. However, I forgot to mention another downside for higher VG liquids pertains to #4 in my list, VG is sweet so I crystalizes like sweeteners do as well. Most prebuilt coils are really mainly designed to vaporize a 40pg/60vg max, maybe 30pg/70vg every once in a while, really, thicker higher VG liquids really only work well with a rebuildable, like the RDA section of a Subtank or RTA like a Kayfun and such, where when things are burnt tasting, it is 90% of the time the wicking, so open the tank up, remove the wicking, dry fire off the gunk from the coil, rinse, rewick the coil, prime it again, close every thing up, refill and run and gun.

1: How difficult to rebuild:
Not difficult;
Instead of throwing away your used coils you *could* rebuild or rewick them but they are so small you'd need to do microsurgery to redo them.
A rebuildable is something designed for you to rebuild/rewick your coil easily.

2: Does it come out cheaper:
Yes.
Instead of spending $10 a week you spend maybe $10 a year.

3: Any guides:
Lots of videos on youtube

It's not a stupid question at all, but it can have multiple answers depending on how you look at it;

The simple answer is that single coil just means there is one coil of wire and dual coil is 2 coils of wire. With dual coil it's kind of like vapeing twice at the same time.

Electrically, when you add a second coil, though, it lowers the resistance, and the lower the resistance the more slippery the slope gets.
