Okay Ladies and Gentlemen, :)

I have my lifelong friend wanting to quit smoking. He is already ahead of where I was when I switched, as he actually wants to quit cigarettes. I didn't want to quit when I switched.

So if you knew then what you know now, What kind of kit would you start yourself out on?

This was my odyssey into vaping, briefly:

I started with a Q105 $10 kit(180 mAh battery with a 2.5 ohm atty and a little usb power thingamajig). I did try the included cartridges, but pretty much started out direct dripping.

I think it wasn't long after that that I purchased an Ego Passthrough (the kind that can vape independently also) which I was pretty excited about and worked well enough so I could make an internal decision to just commit to vaping over smoking.

Presently, I am rockin' an Itaste VV with a Phoenix rebuildable atty and on my way to making my own juice as well. As I stated in another thread the Innokin Itaste MVP is a great little device, but it

possesses an incredibly fragile charging port. That bugs me, cause I am all about durability and have no shame admitting that I can be unintentionally rough on stuff. At 45 I figure, it's just "me" so I deal

with it accordingly.

So that's my evolution to present.

My Quandary :

Should I just bypass the stages of developing into vapology and put together a "kit' per se that has a VV

or :

Should I start him with an Ego set of hardware ? I am guessing that the lower the investment the

more likely he will just take the plunge but I am guessing that under $75 would work as well. I think finances put aside, my question is "what" not necessarily "how much".

So, think back. What would you have done differently when you started re: hardware?

Thanks, much, for your opinions :)

I quit using an ego, so I think they're great. Easy to use, accessories widely available. Any of the models, spinner, ego, kgo, twist give a good vape. I'd buy name brand because I do think the batteries last longer and usually have a half decent warranty (2 months at least).
That's what I just got a friend with some clearos because they're easy. (Personally I can't stand them). Too complex and finicky and they may give up.

I have and like the MVP. If you want durable and like attys, get a Reo. They're indestructible. Don't have to refill and you can wash them in the sink. It's not the only one I use though. I like having several different pvs going. I even have a 510 mini for when I go out and don't want something conspicuous.

No, I wouldn't have done anything differently.

Personally I would just move him into s VV setup right off the bat. A friend of mine tried to start me off with a provari when I switched which I declined and went with the joye starter kit. While those kits are great I still found myself smoking analogs and jonsing for a real smoke. I had been a heavy smoker for about 18 years. I now use a Siegel Zmax with a vivi nova and havent looked back. Ill probably end up getting a provari eventually as well and have a Chi-you mod on order. Personally I wished I would have saved myself the time and money and just went with a VV setup right away

i think the ego twist route is always a good way to go for the price vs bang.

but i have to admit the VAMO shook up the whole cheap vs expensive mod argument.

if he is leaning on you for advice, you need to figure out how big of a device he is willing to accept first. some people would never carry or use a vamo and i think the ego is light and cheap feeling even though it works excellent.

Howdy,

Vaping is a personal arrangement, if you have several mods avalible then let your friend try them all, he will settle on one that feels comfortable and works for him.
I know the arguement of this is better then that...ect. I personally quit off an Joyetech Vision Tank system, but this was a personal choice. I'd had the spread of devices avalible to me at this time.
Some factors to consider would be...
Size-some people don't like big battery mods.
Automatic or manual- Pushing a button is second nature to most of us, but that may not be what works for him.
Durration out- How long does it have to last, Power management may be a factor or it may not.
Vaporizer style- Maybe dripping might be his thing, maybe a carto, maybe a tank....have to let him decide on that one.
Vapor production- This is a deal breaker for a lot of smokers who quit, I know I still enjoyed the "Feel" of a cig when I quit, again something that is a personal choice.

The bottom line is let him decide what fits best, the overall best option truthfully is introduce but don't be overbearing on any one specific device or set up...he will thank you later. :)

Thats my two cents worth of it all, hope this helps.

I think he needs to feel comfortable with it. For some people it isn't all about the vapor production etc to start. An equally big part is the size and feel, and how comfortable they feel using it at work, or out places. An ego twist or an ego will be easier to get used to than a mod for a lot of people. Others don't mind using something mod size.
You could ask him what size ecig - and maybe show him some. So many people just don't want to start with something they feel is too big. It's where they are at - and better to start smaller and have it work than have some-one be put off because of the size, feeling uncomfortable and so on.
Some folks start with a mod no problem - but everyone is not the same. Maybe ask him, and/or show him a your set ups.

I started with an eGo-T kit, within a few months I moved to a LavaTube and DCT tanks. Lost my LTv1 and picked up a myGo v2 which died after a week, and I bought a ProVari. I still use the DCT tanks as they seem to work well for me. I wish I would have started with carto tanks but every other step along the way was useful for me to decide what I wanted out of vaping. I still have and use my eGo batts with 3.5ml tanks as back ups, so they certainly were not wasted money for me. The myGo v2 was a waste of money but it taught me that a good warranty and customer service was worth spending a little more for.

I think eGo twist or the like with a Vivi nova, kanger T3, or DCT tanks would be a great starting point.

Thanks, y'all.

It's some solid advice and very helpful. S'why I really value our forums :)

He lives a little ways away, so we aren't interacting every day, but he saw the Innokin and seemed to like it, As I like it...it's just that weak dang charging port...

The twist is something I was thinking, also. Just wish they made a P/T version.

I have and like the MVP. If you want durable and like attys, get a Reo. They're indestructible. Don't have to refill and you can wash them in the sink. It's not the only one I use though. about this....Anybody got a reasonable source for a Reo? Sounds like something I could do well with... :) Durable is good, Indestructible is awesome :)

If your friend has already decided they want to vape, then I would agree with the others that an ego twist + mini nova or kanger tank is great - it was enough to get me off cigs.

I started with a blu disposable - menthol flavor. For me, that was a good introduction because I didn't know anything about vaping and didn't really think it would work for me. It let me try it out without a big commitment. It does work pretty well, too . .if it wasn't for the cost, I probably would've stuck with them for longer.

Have your friend try out what you currently use and if you have several pvs that would help him tremendously to make a solid choice. If you are lucky enough to possibly live in area where there is an actual vapping store some places will let newcomers try out some different models juices ect... I wish I had that when I was starting out. It truly comes down to what kind of smoker he is heavy, moderate ,light. Ego kits are a tried and true but the new vamo is reasonably priced and you have variable power and the convenience of set it and forget it with it. I quit the day I got an ego kit 900mah pass thru with a stardust style clearo. I'm currently using a lambo vv with a pheonix clone I also use a 5v puck style box mod I built myself. There are so many choices as you no doubt can see by our posts. For me I wish a vamo type device in a kit with a few boges cartos LR a nice tank, a rebulidable vision clearomizer charger batteries juice had been available that would have been a great intro to vapping. You should have him check out Phil Brusardo you tube reviews great info details about products. The list goes on and I am rambling. I hope I made some sense and maybe helped some too.
