I dunno if it's just me but....

How many people here leave their regulated or mech mods laying in their laps?

Let see a show of hands!

Me: NEVER
me: raising my hand. o_O I often do and sometimes it is more than one at a time but I don't use mechanical mods so am not worried about it. I say often but it is only when I go to town and that is usually only once every 3 weeks or so. If I felt one heating up I think I could toss it before any damage could happen.

If it did happen I sure wouldn't be reporting it to anyone since it would be user error.

And a person has never had hot ash fly into their face from a cigarette while driving, and crashed. Nobody has ever dropped a cigarette on their lap while driving and ended up rolling over off the side of the road.

In my younger years, my father, a smoker, would drive with a cigarette in his hand all the time...

Then this one time when I was around 10 if I remember correctly, as we were going up a curving up-going ramp at a fair speed, he dropped the burning ashes on himself and was burning himself, his reflex was to let the stirring wheel go, look down to get this thing off of himself, while we were still accelerating.

The good thing was that I happened to be sitting as the front passenger, so I reached over, grabbed the wheel and gently turned us back on the proper path/lane. He looked up and realized that he had just about killed us.. we would have smashed through the fence and have ended up flying from about 40 feet high into a parking lot with lots of things that we wouldn't have landed nicely at all.

The funny thing is my idiot of a brother in the back seat had seen it all and had almost wet himself, and couldn't believe that I reacted so "cool" to do what I did. No doubt that should I had been the one sitting in the back, I probably wouldn't be here today.

My father rarely smoked while driving again after that, and as an adult, I've always refused to be in a car if the driver smoked while driving, even banned my wife from smoking in the car at all (before she quit thanks to vaping).

With a $0.99 adapter from the same gas station. Ever wonder how often those cause all sorts of problems?

So was it a Fuax Hybrid Mech Mod using a eFeast Battery that had a Torn Wrapper?

Or was it an Gas Station No-Name eGo in Pass-Thru Mode using a STM with a Ni-200 0.15 Ohm Coil Head?

I had a neighbor that had a cheap ego device explode (he wasn't using it at the time).
When I asked him about it, he said he always left it plugged into the cigarette lighter, so he could use it pass-through. When it exploded it was 95deg in a closed up car. So about 150deg inside the car.
I wouldn't doubt with this incident being in Arizona, could be heat related.
Of course we will never know, and the blame will be on the e-cig, not the user.

There is absolutely no detail in this "story"

my first thought was that she was charging it at the time, wouldn't be the first time that has happened.
99% of these stories, they never provide much details... but when they do, it's either mech mods, someone using a bad charger on an Ego type, or exposing their Ego type to extreme heat (leaving them on the dash in the sun) which then explodes when they trigger them.

Basically aside mech mods / bad batteries / not following Ohm's law, the Ego blow-ups are almost always the same type of situation that someone would get their cellphone batteries to pop.

Just set my sister up with a Pico this weekend, her first step up from an Ego. Gave the whole battery safety lecture and told her to never, ever leave it in the car or anywhere she wouldn't leave her cell phone. Cars become literal ovens here in the AZ summer.

True, for some reason the regulated auto fires never seem to get reported to the media. We see them here and on fb and other forums.

Don't give the media more ideas.

Besides, folks around here in those extremely rare occurrences are pretty good about knowing what to do and how to do it minimizing injury to self or property. They just chuck them in the backyard until things cool down.

    Yes and no...
There are some folks here who insist on spreading the misinformation that you don't need to understand battery safety as long as you have a regulated mod.

Some folks in here provide misinformation all the time then argue it... sad, but true... I've argued battery safety, especially wraps and insulation rings (with someone that argued that he already knew everything but yet wasn't sure that his batteries were safe, told they were not, explained why, but decided that they were fine anyways), TC metals (NI and TI) (someone decided that using NI and TI was "safe" in watt mode and that the danger was nothing more than "opinions that he didn't agree with"), and just about everything/anything with some people... heck, some even argue that the propaganda is true on some topic that's been disproved multiple times.

Pretty crazy stuff, considering that the information is out there, easily found, but these people would rather go with "a friend told me, so it must be true" attitude, regardless if you provide proper info, links and other proof.

Words on a computer rarely display thoughts as they were ment to be taken.

We only have the written word to understand how someone is trying to convey their message.

With that said, let's try to keep this to the topic of the thread.

I'm going to clean up some off topic posts that are not bad per se, but may cause more off topic discussion.

    I hope those individuals understand.

    Thank you!

When I used to smoke I did it all the time while driving and there was a few times over the years I had to PULL OVER to grab that burning cigarette I dropped. Now as a Vaper I will admit I do put my REGULATED MOD's in my lap all the time but I am attempting to stop the practice not due to safety concerns but because I tend to forget I have it in my lap and it crashes to the pavement when I exit the vehicle.
