Neither here nor there
Is this plausible? Not an attempt at extracting purified nicotine, but just making a tobacco extract containing some nic to add to a vaping base of pg, vg, flavorings...
I am unsure of the accuracy nicotine quantity mentioned at the end of the procedure.

"Materials:
1.75 liters of greater than 150 proof ethanol (everclear, moonshine)
2 mason jars
1 mason jar lid
a non-gas stove
cheesecloth or old T-shirt
3 or 4 packs of cigarettes

Procedure:
Start by butchering your lovely cancer inducing cigarettes by creating an incision at the top and work your way down to the filter. Extract and chop the resulting tobacco with a knife untill it is very fine. Put all of this tobacco into the mason jar and pour in you ethanol solution of choice. Don't fill the jar, just put enough in so the tobacco particles float around freely.(Sorry for lack of definitive measurments) Let this solution sit for approx. 30-60 minutes. The longer this is done the better. I do three myself.

After you feel the solution has sat long enough, place the cheesecloth or T-shirt over the other mason jar. Pour the contents of jar one into jar two through your filter. Pick up your filter and SQUEEZE all the liquid you can from the tobacco pulp. Repeat the process as much as you want.

Once your second mason jar has been filled to the amount of your liking, pour it into a wide bottomed pot or pan and place over a non-gas stove at a low to medium-low heat. Ok, I can't stress this enough, DO NOT USE A GAS STOVE!!! The ethanol vapors WILL combust in your FACE! Agitate the solution with a utensil of choice for 1.5 hours or untill the solution is thick and doesn't smell of alcohol. If you have gotten this far and didn't screw up, congratulations! You now have around 72% pure tobacco alkaloid extract and according to JohnWW, 98% of the alkaloids are nicotine. So your final product should be approx. 66.24% pure."

Picked this up from the thread on science madness, BTW.

And to Phantasm, why not use ethanol? Isopropanol is not safe for consumption.

read the mad sceintist thread....... for gods sake

Making up nutty ways to extract nicotine might be a running joke in here, but if some fool trys something like discussed and dies, I do not think a disclaimer means to much. I am all for ligitimate discussions on the ways to extract nicotine and am hoping to learn myself, but posting stuff that very well could make people sick or kill them borders on criminal. Even if you guys are joking, which I am not sure if you are, God I hope you are.

:evil:Really?! Wow, go have a pull off your PV and settle down Obama Joker guy! I don't appreciate being called, or inferred as borderline criminal, nutty, joking, or illigitimate. I'm simply participating by bouncing ideas off of other members, kind of the whole idea of a discussion forum remember?

Perhaps you should elaborate on your baking a tobacco cake, instead of trying to rip apart other peoples ideas.

Hmm, call me a nutty borderline criminal, but I just read the science madness thread and they were just using water through the espresso machine. Unless I missed it, there was no mention of putting any kind of solvent through one. So, it might still be worht a shot. If I get around to trying, myself, or my next of kin will post the results.

I'm waiting on a reply from the Chemist as to whether or not he thinks I'd be wasting my time. If I do decide to go through with it, I will most certainly try to figure out how to post pictures up on here or links to them. ...especially if it might mean documenting the destruction of a perfectly good espresso machine eh! Here is what I plan on doing, pictures will come later if I do it:

  1. Purchase some good rolling tobacco.
  2. Grind it in my magic bullet or coffee grinder, untill it's powderized.
  3. Put some coffee filter paper in the bottom of the espresso machine cup thing that holds the grounds.
  4. Put the powderized tobacco in the cup, on top of the filter paper.
  5. Fill the water chamber with rubbing alcohol of the highest purity I can find, which thus far is 91%.
  6. Turn on the machine and "solvent steam" the heck out of the tobacco.
  7. Pour the resulting "tobacco tea" into a larger pot to simmer it down and reduce it to a syrup consistancy.
  8. Put on my home made haz-mat suit.
  9. Very carefully pour the tobacco syrup into a secure container.
  10. Store it out of reach of children and clutzes.
Now Davey, just so we're clear, this is just a plan. I've not tried this out yet and have no idea if it's going to work. If you want to try the above method, by all means do so and of course be carefull and good luck. Hopefully you'll be succsesful but if not, it is of course entirely not my problem.
well thats pretty good list keep me updated on if it works or not, if it does i might have to go to thrift store to find a good espresso machine

Sorry if this question has been asked. I asked it on a couple other DIY threads to ensure a response.

I have seen many posts where do-it-yourselfers take their soaked tobacco or nicotine liquid and try straining it through a coffee filter as the final step (which I hear is dangerous and difficult due to the globby mess).

But what I have NOT read so far is someone who has tried to wrap the tobacco up FIRST, very tightly into coffee filter(s) teabag(s) BEFORE soaking it in water or alcohol. I would think that this would resolve the problem of the globby mess if you were to wrap up the tobacco extremely tight into a filter beforehand so that the tobacco has no room to expand. After soaking for days or weeks in a sealed container, this should result in water/alcohol that is filled with nicotine and not globby or difficult to mess with. So has anyone tried this method? Anyone willing to give it a whirl?

(This idea seems similar to the soaking snus method, except snus has much less nicotine than actual tobacco, thus many users report hardly any nicotine kick.)
