Mark_Detroit a member of the Reddit ecig subreddit posted a link to a propaganda page that demonizes ecigs. The creator is getting blasted by negative comments (worth a read for a laugh), but I am really curious who is paying for this page.

If anyone can find out who is paying for this Facebook page, i would be curious to know.

Breaking links to junk science.

EDIT! I suggest that we report the page as spam, and also report it as offensive, if enough people do that Facebook should take it down.

There's no way to tell who's behind the page; creating a page is free on Facebook (I admin several myself for both personal and work use) and the admins are not identified to the people who visit the page. Only Facebook and the page owner know who they are.

I already did my share of trolling there today. :)

Interesting. Thanks for pointing this out. I want to believe that even someone with a PhD in mechanical engineering knows how to spell naive...

For what it may be worth (slightly but not entirely off-topic) ...

Lots of gov't and presumably BP money is directly/indirectly going towards supporting anti-vaping activities. It's used to pay salaries, fund PR campaigns, lobby politicians, and of course fund studies, scientests at research institutions plus endowed chairs at famous universities to boot.

As far as I can tell, there's nothing illegal about it. It's not even what one might call "news" (it's "dog bites man," if you will). In fact another phrase to describe this activity might be: "exercise of First Ammendment rights." And yes, the gov't has them.

That doesn't mean I like it, or that I think it has a positive impact on public health.

What the public needs to know is that this is how their tax dollars are being spent, and that the advocacy-in-question is hardly disinterested in nature.

This is perhaps why Glantz's blog was edited to remove his now somewhat-infamous accusation to the effect that the vaping industry is somehow orchestrating a pro-vaping campaign by right-wing think tanks. Evidently someone had the sense to realize that the proverbial pot could hardly accuse the kettle of being black.

Spam? Nothing in the article beyond opinions by doctors on nicotine potentially causing kids (anyone) to become ill and reporting of same. Child safety caps? A good idea. The offensive thing? Suggesting 'censorship'.

It is one of only a few reports that points out: "Some e-cigarettes don't contain any nicotine,..."

Dr. Frank LoVecchio said nicotine is known to be toxic to people.

"You are getting very low doses when you smoke these things," he said, "but if you had a massive dose, it could kill you."

And, the concentration of nicotine in e-cigarettes and their liquid refills can be very high, he said. Some e-cigarettes don't contain any nicotine, but others contain up to 500 milligrams.

It only takes about 30 to 60 milligrams of nicotine to send a child to the emergency room.

Demonizing? Nope. Censorship? Not now - not ever.
