Taz, I was posting that link and comment to Minimike, You and I posted at the same time! Sorry for the confusion, I haven't figured out how to do quotes and didn't think to title it to him.
As a matter of fact my Uncle died of Copd related problems, he lived a smoke free life and so did his wife. He was a farmer and was never around cigarette smoke. But he did burn played out crops and used a smoker when ther was a freeze.

I have 2 nieces that are pregnant and stressed out of their mind and my mother is 87 and hubby has a very bad heart and just suffered a major stroke... and, I know we all need levity, but on swine flu and pandemics... I find I cannot laugh for I am really nervous for all those whom I love deeply... Rather than ruin the fun, I think I'll go nite-nite.

I am real slow with my post most of the time. I am tring to stay in deep cover and peek out every now and then. In other words I am trying not to act like a flamer. Just a little spark.

That is one of the facts, there is too much pollution in our environment for research to pin point things as good as we would like. Your Aunt and Uncle is an example of things a smoker would do and it would all be blamed on smoking.

I know we all feel better having quit smoking but another fact is that it may not turn out like the doctors say. National library of Medicine has lost of case of smokers quiting and then something bad happened to them, they say because they use to smoke.

Can't win for losing.

You wouldn't ruin anything, going to bed sounds like a good idea though.
This is one place where a guy or a gal should be able to say what they are thinking and concerned about, always somebody to offer a kind word or just ream you one! Your loved ones are truly blessed!

A few years ago a woman that lives near us had her 100th birthday. Her kids decided that smoking wasn't good for her. They took away her cigarettes. She died a few months later. The question is (if she had been given an ecigarette would she have lived longer?) Hummmmm

My brother-in-law tryed to do that to my mother-in-law. My husband put a stop to that. Anyone that lives to be a 100 doesn't need to worry about anything being bad for them. She would have probably live longer if they had left her alone. She may have enjoyed a e-cig also.

My previous post was directed toward the "opinion" that originated this thread - that second hand smoke was not harmful or that smoking is not bad for your health and these were the reasons that our "simple pleasures" were being taken away from us. That's absolutely insane if anyone actually believes that.

I think taking ciggies away from a 100 year old person is wrong!! Good grief - the lady probably died from depression what with not having her comfort from ciggies anymore!! Maannn - if I were 100 and still a smoker and my kids took my ciggies they might not live to see tomorrow.

But what some of you are saying is definitely true. And this is what irks me also. Smoking is blamed for a lot of things that is simply nonsense.

Telling a doctor that you are smoker immediately biases his diagnosis toward that fact. I've seen that and it is wrong!!

But cheer up, I hear that obesity is now being blamed for everything.

Not only does obesity cause diabetes, heart diseases, stroke, cancers, depression, high blood pressure, asthma, arthritis, and urinary tract infections (i.e. everything) but now obese people are being blamed for causing global warming. If we could prove that obesity caused 9/11 and the AIDS epidemic, we would have found the root of all evil, hands down!!!

I heard that if you stubbed your toe it was because you either smoked or was fat or both. Since they are running out of smokers they have to blame everything on someone.

If a little weight loss will prevent another 9/11 (ruined my Bdirthday) and prevent an aids epidemic, I will be the first one on a diet.

My hubby says global warming is cause by us women having hot flashes. Last week they were blaming it on cow toots.

Smoking kills - this is a fact. Anything else doesn't really matter in my mind.

so does living... so do motor cars.. so do lots of things we just do without question..

at best it could be said smoking might kill you before something else does.. might being the operative word.. whatever happens something will kill you in the end..

the main cause of death is birth.....

ashes to ashes.. dust to dust.. so let it be in god we trust.. !!

well.. at least we used to..

i hate these propaganda style sound bites to be honest..

UK anti smoking propaganda has followed a simple path..

it goes back about thirty years or so.. prior to that it was just something most folks did..

the first attack... smoking is damaging your health.. answer.. so what its my heath mind you own business..

second attack.. smokers are costing the UK national health system money it should not be allowed.. answer.. u must be f-cking joking with the tobacco taxes we pay we are paying for everybody elses health care for free..

third attack... passive smoking... or you are killing me.. this was the biggy.. no real answer to that one even tho its never been properly proven.. the smoker is now the killer not the tobacco..

we are back to attack number two now again.. smokers are costing the health service money.. this one aint going down to well cos even with none smokers who see it as the first step on the road to banning anything that might cause injury.. sport or whatever our rulers dream up next to save money..

anyways the interesting question.. what do we do about the ever increasing desire of the state to ban everything we do.. currently most folks havnt twigged whats going on.. they are taking away more and more of our freedoms under the guise of protecting us..

it seems to be a part of ever increasing state control... a built in part.. ultimately ban every f-cking thing that makes life worth living.. he he he

when ask why i used to smoke.. my answer was a simple one.. "it helps keep me sane".. when ask why i now e smoke i would say the same thing..
