I was vaping at a steady 12. Then I decided to go down to eight or nine. But then something in my body kicked in and I had to have nicotine so I switched back to my original 18. Does anybody else have a similar story. It could be the stress I'm not sure but I feel like I failed the mission. I guess I'll be vaping for a lot longer than I thought. I was hoping to quit but that don't look like that's going to happen for a very long time
Thank you in advance

I went from 18 and am now at 14. It's taken me years to get there. I'll do 12, but I don't really like it.

You really have to be determined to the point to where the hassle just outweighs the enjoyment.

If that makes any sense o_O.

I'm a big one for letting others do my homework for me.

My observation has been people who switch to vaping and stay vaping do well.

People who do well with vaping and then wean off do good for awhile but always go back to smoking. Thats people like me in the 2+PAD/multi decade class. Younger people and people under 2PAD may have better success I just don't know any of them.

So I been puffing on my fruity juice for several years now and the thought of smoking makes me throw up alittle, in my mouth. Building my own tanks and DIY juice make the cost near zero and the health benifits seem very real so I don't see any thing to be gained quitting.

After 2 packs a day for 30yrs I started at 12mg when I started vaping 4yrs ago. Looking back I probably would have started at 18mg and went down. I am down to 3mg now and keep extra nic around to make up a quick batch of stronger nic/e-juice should I want it. My trigger always was and is still somewhat...driving.

I started on 3mg. That was 10 months ago. I do not feel the craving for nicotine anymore, and can go all day without taking a vape. I simply choose to vape and it is now more of a voluntary habbit. I never had a problem getting away from nicotine (or the bonus chemicals in analogs) but more addicted to the hand to mouth, inhale and exhale habbit. I like the nicotine i get (around 30mg per day) and use it like one would with coffee (which i dont drink), or as an occasional stress release, but at this point I could easily give it up.

If giving up is your goal, instead of focusing on dropping your nicotine levels in your juice, you can alternatively try to take less puffs per day. If you go through 20ml of juice a day, try to ration it down to 15ml of juice. Then go down to 12, then 10, and so on until you are not needing it anymore. This approach seems to work fairly well especially for those who find low nic levels unsatisfying.

I wouldn't call raising your nicotine levels a fail - sometimes you just have to listen to your body and adjust accordingly.

Being smoke free is the end goal - you are already there with that, so just take your time with the nicotine taper.

I quit at 18mg, 5 months later I'm at 12mg. I may drop that down at some stage, but I'm in no rush.

One thing is for sure, you don't want to go back to smoking, so do what is necessary. If this means staying at 18, then stay there. How long have you been vaping? Also keep a note if you do eventually lower as to how much juice your vaping per day. You may lower to 12, but you might be vaping alot more then you were at 18, so nothing is really changed. Maybe look into diy if you really really want to drop and set a goal at maybe dropping 2mg per year, that's 1mg per 6 months

I have a fuzzy recollection that someone warned you that this kind of reduction might not be as easy as you think.

    But you're not smoking, right?

    Then you haven't failed. :)

I started at 18mg and stepped down in 3mg increments over time. I'm at 3mg now and accidentally taking a drag at 6mg makes me ...

    I can't vape the stuff.

My DIY vape calculator has new recipe defaults set to 6mg finished strength and 36mg nic base. I'm working now with 48mg base and forgot once to change the defaults.

I took a test drag of that stuff... I thought I was gonna die.

A few months in I went from 24 to 18 and didn't even notice the difference. It was so easy I went down to 12 a few weeks later. It only took me a few days to realise that was a mistake and I went back up to 18 and stayed there for a year. I'm down to 8 now.

Basically you don't know until you try. Your brain will let you know soon enough.

@Vaperer , NOT a failure at all. If your body is telling you it wants 18, then go with the flow for now. You can always change. The BIG thing is that you're not smoking.

I started 5 years ago at 24mg, and that's my sweet spot to this day. Before I started DIY I tried some store bought 18mg and it just didn't do it for me, found myself vaping more. I regard it somewhat like I do caffeine. Nicotine is NOT what was killing us all, smoking was...

The main thing is that you're not going back to cigs. So, whatever it takes is good in my book.

I started at 24+, stayed there for 2.5 years, dropped to 1 mg/ml over the next year, then tried to go to zero but ended up rebounding to 3, where I've been for the last 18 months.

While I was reducing my nicotine, I was vaping a combination of DIY and made-to-order juices. This let me pick any nic level I wanted, which I think was really helpful. I lowered my nicotine by 3 mg/ml from around 24 - 12, then started dropping by 1 or 2.

If you're using pre-made juices and you want to decrease slowly, it's not too hard to do. Say you're at 9 mg/ml and you want to drop to 8, but they only offer 3, 6, 9, and 12 - buy the 6 mg/ml and a little nicotine base. Topping the 6 up to 8 won't take much base, so you won't dilute the juice much. If doing the math yourself scares you off, there are plenty of online juice calculators you can use.

Started at 48mg.. took a month and worked down to 36.. took two months, down to 24, took 6 months , down to 21, 6 months, down to 18 and back and forth to 12-18 for a while.. 12 finally took for a bit, and a quick down to 9, 6 and now for the last year at 3.. but I cheat since I DIY and bump up to 5 or 6 every now and then. October will be 6 years smoke free so screw it. I wasn't trying to get away from nicotine, just the smoke and tar and thousands of ingredients.

several months ago I was at 18 now I'm at 10 thinking of going down to 8mg. But yes try not to get yourself in stressful environments or people. Also don't push yourself to hard and just go by feeling. When the time is right, you'll drop down the nictotine
