Heres the story:

- purchased refurbished PS3
- got used copy of Fallout 3
- got to 'Waters of Life' quest, when escorting Dr Lei out of the Rotunda the game freezes, forcing me to shut down the console. Upon retrying I got the same result.
- went online and discovered this is a problem for which Bethesda (the games maker) has made patches for.
- updated the game via an internet connection. Same freeze happens.
- returned used copy for another used copy. same freeze.
- returned 2nd used copy and purchased a brand new copy of Fallout 3 Game of The Year Edition which has all five of the games add ons.... you guessed it... same freeze.

I am completely hooked, or WAS completely hooked on this game. I cannot get out of the Rotunda so at this point I have an unplayable game. I have no idea what 'patch' to download as there are several to choose from. Nor do I know really how to go about the process of doing so. I am at a loss and am wondering if someone out there knows anything about how a normal, non-tech person could go about continuing this game? Or am I done? If I am done, what other game comes close to the premise and gameplay of Fallout 3 (meaning RPG, free roaming, post-apocoliptic shooter type).

Some notes to consider before answering, should you be so inclined:

1. I am not going to go out and buy an X-Box because you think ps3 sucks. I have a ps3...thats what I am asking about.
2. I am not an 'online gamer' person... so I wont be playing this online.
3. I have used PS2 for the last 9 years, so hooking my game console to the internet is new to me, please go easy on me.

Thanks in advance,

-VP

SICK game!!! My advice is instead of escorting her out is to strart shooting at her until she becomes an enemy (sight turns red) but don't kill her. No I'm not kidding. Be armed to the teeth and well equipt to fight you way out of Rivet City as I did after getting snagged by a gaurd for picking a lock. After escaping Rivet City fast travel to Megaton or any safe place to rest for 72 hours. Then make your way back to Rivet City where all is forgotten. This might do the trick unglitch the game. This part of the game is where things really start getting amazing. Power Armor!!! Goodluck!

I haven't played Fallout 3 yet, but my friend and I have been playing Borderlands. Awesome game, and it has a ZOMBIE DLC! It's post apocalyptic and has RPG elements and lots of sick weapons. There's 4 different characters you can play and many ways to level them. There's also online play should you decide to give it a try (though not necessary). Also, there's a lot of comedy in the game. The claptraps are absolutely hilarious!

So I would say try to go on line, when you do the game will tell you what patches you need also their was an upgrade to the bios on the machine its self which if you try to play online the PS3 will tell you you need it that may fix the glitch, I loved Fallout so much I ordered a bunch of the DLC. Boarderlands is almost as good as fallout 3 but actually is more fun to play with a Buddy as the game is faster and harder and bigger enemys and its fun to play with someone else

God I love fallout 3, I would try going back to an earlier save and trying it again.

As far as a patch goes when it's on a console they do it automatically when you sign into your psn account it just does it.

I get the vast majority of my multiplats on 360 since the ps3 versions tend to be a bit more buggy.

Fallout New Vegas will be out this fall!!!!

If nothing else just start a new game it takes almost no time to blow through the main quest and the game deserves a few playthroughs anyway. Go do operation alaska first and playthrough with the stealth armor.

this peice says the patch is required when you fire up the game.

This glitch doesn't affect golf games on the 360 :D Ever since I shoved that ethernet cable into the back of the 360 it wants to update and now on Tiger Woods the uprated clubs & stuff can be bought with Microsoft points :( They want money for something already on the disc!!! Good thing one can also win them by playing tournaments!

Anyone else had micro payments popping up all over games once the Internet is connected to it?
