No pics, but I use simple microcoils. 28 gauge 3.0 mm. Last coils I made were spaced instead of my usual compressed. Too early to tell if I prefer them or my old way.

I'm a big believer in K.I.S.S. (keep it simple, stupid) I can make pretty good coils, but I don't particularly "like" making them. Therefore I keep them simple.

I worked last year in a vape shop. Just about everyone there experimented with fancy twisted, parallel, Clapton, etc coils which I tried. I found no benefit to the exotic builds other than some people seem to gain an enjoyment factor from a hobbyist/enthusiast perspective. Your results may vary from mine.

I have bought and built many coils. Some that have worked well, many that haven't.

But to be totally honest about the subject, I am in awe of the coils in the Freemax Starre. I would really like to see the machines that put those together.

Dual, parallel, spaced, vertical, .25ohm coils.

They give amazing flavor, HUGE vapor, and last for a ridiculously long time for a premade coil with cotton wick. A month with 10-15ml per day of max VG juice, running at 60+ watts, and it still works and tastes like new. They put the vast majority of RDA builds I have tried over the past 2 years to shame. By far the most impressive pre-made coil I have ever seen.

My go to is claptons. I'm really starting to like fused claptons, but they burn through some juice and batteries ferociously. The flavor and vapor production is amazing though. Yes I do get into the artsy builds with buddies of mine. And yes most of them look alot better than they perform. All in all my go to right now is basic clapton's. I get ton's of cotton coverage and they burn hot.

How is the airflow on the Freemax? I have not seen this tank in Alabama yet. Whats the average cost?

Hmm I normally use 28g but since I got a Cthulhu RTA (fantastic btw) I went to 26g to experiment and that was a mistake. I ventured into dual coils thinking that if I build two .5 ohm I'd get a 1. lol nope! Since I've figured it out and my go to mod, the mvp 3.0 can't run that low, I've run into a problem. I'm having to do like 9 wraps on each coil and I'm just finding that the mvp can't quite heat it up that quick. So I have a dual coil build going on right now, 9 wraps of 26g and it's coming to my comfort zone of .5. It's just taking a while to heat it up so I'm having to run it at 7.7v at 30w. Which does not make for a stealthy vape like I could set my mini too haha. So I know to either use my SIGELEI 100w at home with it, or suffer a weak vape at work :(

Now I have a question you guys you help me out with. The cthulhu is a 4 post, dual coil RTA. I've never build dual coils up until now and I'm running into a problem. How do I go about the leads not hitting the already seated coil? Say for instance I already have one coil seated, and I go to put the other coil through but the leads touch the already seated coil. This leads to me having to move the coil down, secure the second one, and clip the leads, then move the first one above the airflow. Any tips on dual coils with clipping the leads, so they don't hit the other coil?

I used to build claptons 99% of builds but recently I have gone back to simple macro or micro coils with 24 gauge. I find the ramp up time to be perfect with just plain old wire and IMO the twisted coils and the claptons take to long to ramp up. My standard build is an 8 wrap 3mm 24g contact coil coming in at .35ish. Sometimes I take a wrap off or add a wrap but most of the time its the 8 wrap .35ish coil I use daily

Same here, i just build what i know works and simple. :) Altho i don't like spaced coils, they're harder to make good imo (even glow/no hotspots)
Using the little blue screwdriver (LBS) usualy so i'm not sure what the inner diameter is, but it works fine for me. :)

Also i've a precision screwdriver set i ocassionally build from for bigger or lesser inner diameter.

That^^^ is why I never tried and have no inclination to try anything fancy.
If coil making was a hobby and a pleasure, then for sure. But coil making for me is the same as teeth brushing - I just have to do it. And I do not expect any special outcomes, and without special expectations there will be no special results. Taste is a slave to expectatons - often you have what you so much expected. At least for a month, until something new comes.

I'm more interested in results from my RDA's so I keep things simple as well and build for my dripper (not always improving my results). I tend to prefer single coils, but some of them really sing with duals.

If I had to pick a baseline standard coil, it'd be a single micro, 26awg and 2mm ID @ ~0.8ohm.

[EDIT] Currently in use:

What are you using to clip your wire? I use wire cutters like these. You can get down behind the coils alot easier. As I insert the second coil I will slightly bend the leads up, so as they come through the other side they go above the first coil.

The vct/tct are basically identical to this and they are amazing also. I still like the Kanger occs, but these ones are even better. Maybe something about the vertical build?

Bend the lead into an upwards curve before you install it, so it goes straight over the top of the coil when you put it in. Best method I've come across :)

HUGE amount of airflow, and the new Freemax Starre Pro that is about to come out is said to have even more. When I say huge amount of airflow, I mean about twice as much as a Kanger Subtank. Two 3mm tall, 15mm wide cyclops eye holes with an adjustment ring.

Freemax_Starre_Disassembled.jpg

Average price is around $28. I wouldn't pay more than $30 for one, and if you look around you can find them for about $25. The coils average about $17 for a pack of 5, but the coils last a LONG time. You can run a couple of hundred ml of juice through a single coil before it wears out.

Smok VTX/TCT coils are single coils. Like the Aspire Nautilus or Atlantis coils. The Freemax are dual parallel coil. Two wires side by side wrapped into a single spaced coil.
