@Elias,

Great video. Thanks for pulling that together.

The concept makes perfect sense. It sorta like one of those "aha" moment ideas that are so simple and effective, yet no one really thought of it. I assume will we will start seeing a lot of "experts" putting together youtube videos on this method shortly and blowing vape in our face.

Just to check. I think I saw you remove one wrap. If so, was this done for any particular reason, it looks like the post was not high enough, but I am not sure if you wanted to lower resistance or just get better apposition to the wick at the positive post.

well i thought i had a tight wrap , im sort of timid about breaking it down since i just got the ceramic yesterday and worked first try . but that was amazing .
looks like i have something to do after work lol.
Thanks a ton for the vid :)

It's worth pulling it down, the coil I made is so tight I couldnt even move the coil while it was glowing red hot at 15w!!

I removed a wrap from the bottom and a wrap from the top, and it vapes right away without issue, no burning in, remarkably I can vape at a lower wattage than I did with the other wrap I had the closeups for in those images I showed back a few pages.

Enjoy the method, I also hope many start taking shots of this and show how it is for them, I will take some closeups on Monday when I get back to the office and I can use the lab with the 75x magnification macro camera.

so the wicks that your using from pet store really change to blue as your vaping?

I'm watching for an answer to this also. I've been using the PetSmart ceramic since it hit the scene and none of mine have turned 'blue'. Someone did try a blue colored ceramic stone - and that was no good.

Im Calling this the "Elias Hot Wrap"

Most excellant, Elias - thanks.

Here is the new "Elias Hot Wrap Coil" in its first lot of burns fresh new coil (mind you I can vape it straight away no burn in time, no dry hits)

It's 30 AWG Kanthal, 1.3 ohms, set on 3.0 watts, and run for 3.5 mins continuous

It's really a boring video, but its more for a "look that coil is tight" view of how well it works with no burn in time.

So, I'm not here to dis the bubble stone, and I'm definitely going to try the fc-2000 when its not a horse race to get some. I want to summarize, quickly, my fishstix experience, as bits and pieces of information are disjointedly floating around. I had no break-in time, my coils were full contact. I started at 1.4 and 1.7Ω and found it to be a good vape. But as I built lower res., I found that the wicking properties of the air stone couldn't keep up. I have visually compared wicking properties of air stone and 500 ss; 500 is faster. I built a 9/64 fish stone wick with an SLR coil (.7 i think) and hit a point where the wicking abilities were sufficiently unsatisfying that I decided this wasn't the material for me. All this time, over three/four days, I became aware of the presence of a flavor (call it artificial stone-like) which I found unpleasant. It was very subtle; but given the wicking issue, the flavor didn't help. Also, yes, my SUBJECTIVE experience was that the gray stone (TopFin sku #3725702195) began to look more blue. It could be lots of factors (wetness, camera, yellow juice); but my experience was that the stone looked more blue-gray than when it was out of the package. It doesn't much matter. I had already dismissed the material for MY PERSONAL choice based on the previous factors. Here's some picks, the wicks in the tray (in middle pic.) are as follows; central ones are all used, one on far left unused, two fat pieces on right unused. The coil in the AGA wasn't a keeper (not perfectly tight). The coils in the tray (middle picture specifically) are the low res. tight contact, which I found wouldn't keep up.

I really want to try these wicks. But I would need the 3/32" wick and I'm afraid that they will break too easily. Anyone have any experience with this size?

Hi Ricks,

This thread starts with Vapdir's experience with a 3/32" wick and is essentially the basis for everything that has followed. Take a look at the first few pages and there is even a video of the wick in action (Page 9).

I already broke a 1/8 but my fault. I looked at it the wrong way.

Should have removed the cap O-rings first to carefully check how it fits the cap housing.

hey ricks, the 3/32 wicks are indeed something you have to be careful with. i have heard today that the 3/32 wicks might be discontinued for this reason, i dont know just how accurate this news was, but i believe it to be true. so in order to use the fc2000 wicks in a device that small, may require a drill out to fit the 1/8 until a medium size comes around, which may also happen. alot of people have opened up their wick holes to fit the 1/8 wicks, which are very sturdy. but in the mean time, if you dont want to drill out, you can still purchase the smaller 3/32 wicks, for how long, i dont know.

i use them exclusively in my aga-t, and absolutly love them. 30g/1.1Ω at 4ish volts, just a great vape. but like i said before they are fragile. the best way for one to break is overtightening of the pp nut. just by simply wrapping one you will be fine.
