"Street argot for this 21st century technology includes "eGo," "tailpiping," "juice carto," "throat hit," and "dripping."

Literally laughed out loud.
Yes, of course those are all terms we use when talking to people on the street about vaping, because they're not totally alienating at all, right?

I only wish I would overhear people dropping terms like that in everyday conversation...

was talking about the huffpost article elsewhere on the interwebs, and people are freaking out about the accusations that e-cig manufacturers will be targeting people under 18. IMO, they will target that demographic, and they will be successful. 90% of current cig smokers had their first one before they were 18. i certainly did, and i would have jumped on a product that was virtually undetectable by parents, but still provided a nicotine buzz. look at some of the work related e-cig threads on here, and most of the scenarios could just as easily take place in a high school. vaping in the bathroom, taking stealth vapes in lockers, vaping in their parents cars, vaping in their bedrooms and bathrooms at home. and there aren't any butts that could be discovered, mom won't find any lighters in pockets when she's doing the wash, there won't be forgotten spit cups full of skoal lying around, or remnants of skoal between their teeth.
and the biggest concern of all, the majority of these products can be purchased online by anyone. i'm sure someone will bring up the shipping issue, because most underage folks don't have a work address they can ship questionable things to, and their parents could very potentially intercept any packages delivered to the house.

thoughts?

in my office, and slowly everyone's outside group of friends.. totally is  slowly spreading a culture.. then again, i work in a tech support environment. we're all techies and tinkers at heart. so let's go on ahead and add "oxidize" and "da fuq you gonna do with a 36 gauge kanthal!??" to the lingo list

I don't think very many people get any kind of "buzz" from nicotine.

But anyway, I don't see kids ever getting into electronic cigarettes because...
--disposables are too expensive
--recharging and refilling is kind of a pain in the ....
--not easy to hide charging batteries from your parents

It seems that the FDA may be softening their stance against THR. This would be good news for vapers, I would think.

You'd think, but E cigs don't have their seal of approval. On the other hand, they kind of make the argument of overdosing mute since they know nic gives a good warning if you're overdoing it. Once they recommended dual use, the instruction manual became non-existent. More ammo for the battle.

My answer to the HP article (replying to him saying his Dad is vaping but can't quit smoking):
If the ecigs he is using aren't doing it for him, go to ECF and find better ones. My first cigalikes (as we call Blu and other small ones) got me from 1 1/4 PAD (Pack A Day) to 1 PAD.

--Found better batteries, more-consistent, and slightly-better flavors. Down to 3/4.
-- Found variable-voltage such as the eGo Twist or Spinner, or the Volt Spinner. Down to 1/2 PAD.
--Found my favorit flavor (after a long search), 1/4 PAD.

At that point I had to decide whether or not to make the final switch and I did on Jan 1st. But my breathing had already started improving before then.

Two other points:
1. We didn't ban crayons or candy when some Chinese imports showed contamination. If we're going to restrict or ban vapes on that basis, we need to ban ALL milk-containing products and crayons until each separate one has been FDA-tested, color-by-color.

2. I'm sure the companies now marketing to relatively young people would be glad to show older people throwing away their oxygen tanks, but that is AGAINST THE LAW. Any hint that vaping could be good for a smoker instantly makes the product a medicine, and instantly banned. Change the rule and watch the ads change. Betcha.

No question there will be kids trying out an e-cigarette
just to find out what its all about ... kids will be kids.
However, for all the obvious reasons. they won't be
pick up the habit IE a new hobby !!
:p

And even if non-tobacco users started using e-cigs on a daily bases, or any other type of low risk THR product, what's the big deal. It's a utopian fantasy of the ANTZ that we will reach a tobacco free world. Unfortunately we are making public health policy based on that fantasy. That is just plain nuts.

The leading cause of preventable disease is the myth that tobacco and nicotine are a major cause of harm. Every scientist out there with an ounce of integrity knows that's a lie. It's the smoke that kills. People will continue to use nicotine because for a good many people it feels good, and there are a bunch of other benefits.

Good luck with that tobacco free world
