There are a lot of Finns here in the US. Most live in the northern part of the country. My family lived in the states of Minnesota and Michigan. The climate is similar to that of Finland so the immigrants felt more at home in this area. My grandfather was a Lutheran minister, schooled in Finland. One of his brothers was the editor of a Finish language newspaper in Michigan during the 1920's and 30's.
It would be nice to connect with relatives in the home country. I'm sure I have a lot of relatives that I don't know about. From what my brother told me, many Finns now speak English as a second language. Since I don't speak the Finnish language, that would make it easier to communicate with people if I decide to visit in the future. Perhaps when I retire I'll be able to go.
