Ok... call me a newbie... but I was totally unaware of the "fire safe cigarettes". Does anyone have some good information on these? Funny they call them "fire safe" since they still do involve ignition!

However, if anyone has some good links or an opinion on these, I would love to learn more on these since they apparently contain more chemicals than regular cigs AND there has been very little consumer warning???

Thanks!

I actually found out about this a few days before I order my first ecig and it made perfect sense. From my understanding, there is an extra layer of paper filled with "fire-safe" chemicals. mm, mm, good.

this explains why i had felt dreadfully sick and nauseated for a couple weeks. i'm not sure how many manufacturers have adopted this new fire-safe paper but it is required in almost every US state now so I imagine all of them have switched over by now. there have been many complaints about them all over the US about the nausea this stuff causes.

That's pretty much all I know.

Plus, the stuff is driving people to little cigars. These have "reconstituted tobacco" wraps and are brown. Cigars are not covered by regulations for cigarettes .. and are not taxed like cigarettes. Before I quit, I smoked Dean's 'Lil' Cigars -- still 94 cents a pack on the Internet. Look at the growth area, and little cigars are a big player for tobacco companies. Enough so that Congress wants to close all regulatory and tax loopholes on them. That's coming next year.

No, but I definitely noticed several months ago when Camel Lights changed--they tried to do it as a 'packaging change' but it's clear that the previous incarnation had a more papery wrap around the filter. The new ones have a) a longer filter, which extends through the first 1/2 cm of the white part of the cigarette where the Camel logo is, and b) paper around the filter that seems very plasticy--it's hard to tear, and stretches a bit. I was concerned, but some of my friends thought I was crazy.

When I smoke these days, I'm smoking Moldovan Lucky Strikes, which I'm almost certain contain up to 10% mercury by volume. :p

Hi, not only did Iowa impose a state wide smoking ban last year (apart from in casinos, hnmmm go figure) now i've been seeing news stories about these fire safe cigs and i thought i heard it was going to be law that only these cigs could be sold here. I could be wrong on that though, it was a morning news story and i was at the computer having my morning vap when the story was on. Didn't pay that much attention to it.

They changed over hear in August of 07

Since they changed I've had perpetual sore throats and post nasal drip
Ouch and yummy
:p
In november of 07 I went to the doctor and he's the one who told me

Anyone else find it strange that they can just add stuff to cigarettes which could cause allergic reactions and not say anything

It is strange. But hey... I guess someone somewhere figured smokers would die eventually so what's the risk. Thank god for e-cigs. We just came back from vacation and I vaped in the airport, on the airplane, at an NHL game (which I did notice in cold atmospheres the vapor lingers longer)... in the car... it was great. True smokers freedom all over.

Funny they call them "fire safe" when you have to hotbox them to keep them lit and then the hotbox falls off. Or they constantly go out so you have to constantly light them which tends to send a shower of sparks to the carpet.

This was yet another attempt by the antis to kill smokers.

Is there any identification on the pack of cigarettes that tells you they are FSC cigarettes?

Hehe, conveniently they're stamped FSC :)

These Suck! I'm from mass and I do remember the change over to FSC! Fire safe cigarettes!! They suck soo bad! And all companies were forced to sell only those here in Boston. Not only do they somewhat irritate my throat more than usual, but It also seems like they make me smoke more and faster.. If you sit and relax on a cigarette now. The cherry will die out and u'll have to relight the burnt ashy tip.. Its pretty annoying. I hated it once they changed over!

Yeah I have been sucking down analogs way faster ever since they changed, I never used to be a chain smoker.

I think since so many people quit they had to add something to make them more addictive (just a whako theory not based on fact)

Nice to finally see someone else from MA, where you at?

And how are they fire safe if you must light them with fire? Well at least we know that if the anti's continue in this fashion, their ignorance will only become more and more evident, even to themselves. FSMA! (fire-safe my ...)
That's false advertising.

The FSC is being phased in at state preference. Thank goodness, Florida, where I live, won't require them until after 2010.

The little rings that cause the cig to die were determined by dropping lit cigs on carpet and seeing how long it took to ignite the carpet. So regulators demanded cigs not burn longer than that time, according to the account I read. "Smoking" it was not even a consideration!

interestingly the advent of FSC led me to E-cigs. Marboro got phased in early (around mid October) where I live for some reason. Pennsylvania was slated to begin Jan 2009. I had heard nothing about this prior to my accidentally buying a carton. It did not take long for me to notice a difference not only in having to relight them or having them burn funny and drop ashes on my clothes but the taste was different too. I googled those symptoms, got the answer, and immediately got royally ...... off. There is nothing safe about having to light a cig ten times and brushing embers off of my clothes. I tried to return/exchange the carton to the smoke shop and they would not take them back(which piss me off even more) My wife suggested that I return to rolling my own but the thought of spending an hour to make a pack every day just did not apeal to me. It had been may years since I had used my old "Laredo" manual machine so I thought perhaps someone had come out with an electric version that would pump out butts fast as lightning. I did find a couple interesting options but along with those my "electric cigarette machine" google search returned an E-cig site and the rest is history.

OMG, Laredo! I hadn't thought about that monstrosity in 30 years. I used to sit there and slowly, slowly, crank out the next day's cigs. No way would that last. Even my leisure time is worth more than the savings I was getting. Talk about boring!!!

Try little cigars of various brands. Dean's 'lil' Cigars are the best I found, but also Swisher Sweets, Hav-A-Tampa, or Captain Black. There are even some "generic" little cigars. Mild as a cigarette, mostly, and free from the restrictions being clamped on cigarettes. Far, far cheaper (a pack of Dean's can be found for 84 cents if you search the Internet).
