Okay I have on order a few things rba and rda. Well in the mean time my Kanthal A-1 30AWG came in and so did my silica wick 2.5mm. I figured I would try it out on a coil for a protank. First I have tried a lot of wraps 6-7 yesterday kept getting hot at first no vape. Tried a couple more times finally got a lil bit of vape but a lil funky taste that was at like 1.8. My friend let me have some 2.0mm wick. used that today with 6 wraps getting vape out of both of them so I was a lil happy. and that was coming up with 1.4 today both times not to hot is that normal? In order on a protank I guess I should be getting anywhere between. 2.2-2.4 ohms?? that is what I get with a factory coil. should I change the wick thinner or thinner wire? help?

I prefer the 1.5 ohm protank heads over the higher ohm ones fwiw.
I suggest you build one without the silica wick by wrappingh the wire on 1/16" drill bit, install the coil while still on the drill bit and carefully removing the bit. Check the ohms and if its around 1.2 to 1.8 go ahead and try it out with some proper cotton instead of that silica crap. Theres a few threads here on ecf with detailed info on running cotton in protanks and I'm here to tell you there is nothing that compares with the superior performance you'll see when you get yours running on cotton. So anyway...proceed after testing for good ohms by carefully threading a wisp of boiled and dried cotton through the coil. Just a slight wisp pulled through until you feel and see it starting to pull the coil but not too tight. The cotton will swell up some when it gets moistened during use and you dont want it to choke off the juice flow, so again...not too tight. Next just pre-moisten the cotton a little bit with some juice and snip off the tails, Finish assembly by putting the chiminey and silicone cup etc. Install the head, fill tank and let it sit a few minutes and vape away, you won't be disappointed. You might get one or two gurgles at first from pre-moistening the cotton before trimming the tails off pre final assembly, but I find it makes the cotton alot easier to trim off the tails.
