First, wishing every one of my new friends here in ecf a Very SAFE Happy Thanksgiving!!:toast:

This is the first Holiday and family get-together for me as a Vaper. I'm not going to pull out my Triton during dessert at the big table in front of the family. Although I can hold my own in the arguments of: Nicotine is poison, You are still an addict (oh, no doubt there!!), You are still smoking, etc., I'm severely out-numbered. Out of 18 adults, 9 were smokers, all quit except 2 nephews (who smoke and think we don't know, HA!!).:glare: I'll either step outside, or down in the basement. Maybe a few toots during the game.

I will discuss vaping with them, but if it gets loud, or stupid (both real possibilities there, folks!) I'll just end it with, "I like it. It is saving my life from cigs. And I will continue. Happily. Regardless of what you think.":vapor:

(It'd be easier discussing the Grassy Knoll, 9/11 and Newtown/gun control...)

Question to ponder
: If this is your first Holiday with family as a Vaper, do you have a game plan going in? Will you be supported and praised, or vilified and outcast?

And if it's not your first, how did you handle it?

This is my second Thanksgiving at the in-laws. I remember my first very well.....I was nervous. I had only been vaping exclusively for just over a month. They knew I was a smoker and I always stepped outside to smoke. All the in-laws are never smokers. Except 1...the son of one of Mr. Robin's brothers.

Well the day finally arrived and I wasn't sure how to bring up the subject, so I just said 'So, have you heard of E-cigarettes?'
Then went on to explain them and tell them how they have worked to keep me off regular cigs. I got congratulations from all :D I talked to the nephew about the ecig. He seemed interested, I even wrote down all the info about where I got mine etc... His dad thanked me for taking the time with his son. Sadly, he hasn't made the switch but I will be seeing him again this year. Each time I do see him, he sees how long I've been successful. Maybe someday..... ;)

Oh, and the best part? I vape inside. No more going out into whatever weather happens.

Edit to add: It really helped to have the 100% backing of Mr. Robin. In fact he was the one who first suggested ecigs and started this ball rolling.

My first holiday as a vaper was last Christmas. Participants: brother, sister-in-law, friend. Two former smokers (one cold-turkey, one patch) and one occasional closet smoker. Sadly (as my enthusiasm and passion were newly minted and quite powerful) none of them were particularly interested, and in fact beyond "Oh is that one of those electronic cigarettes?" no one cared to comment.

Nevertheless, I smiled and vaped happily away the whole time...

DaveOno, my suggestion to you (based on my belief that contentious discussions have no place at a holiday celebration): If anyone challenges your vaping, just smile and say "Works for me! Fantastic!"

Whatever happens, have a happy Thanksgiving!

And that goes for the rest of you! We know how much *we* have to be thankful for, don't we? :vapor:  :vapor:

EDIT: If there's a possible v-vert (convert to vaping) in the company, by all means pull him/her aside and give him/her the speil!

Great advise from everyone, thanks.

AgentAnia, yes, we do have lots to be thankful for. Not least of which is the current freedoms we enjoy in the USA with vaping. (In light of that mess with the EU!!!)

CommaHolly, imagine, no smokers in the family. Good for you!!

My 2 nephews might get an earful, but then again, so might I.

In a way, I'm looking forward to it. Thanks for your support, friends!!

So, to come full circle, How did it all go for everyone??

A few quiet discussions with my siblings one on one went well. Didn't show nor discuss with my parents, all for the good. I either vapes in an unused room, or quietly while we were watching the game.

But my granddaughter, 4, asked, "What's that, Pop pop?" when she saw my triton in my hand. I told her it's my medicine. I don't vape in front of children.

My other granddaughter, 8, asked me about 9 weeks ago, "Grandpop, I don't want you to smoke anymore. Will you quit? For me?"

Big loving brown eyes, who could ignore? That got me on my quest towards ecigs, my Triton.

Life is good!!
