Congrats I'm fairly new to the vape community (started vaping 3 months now) and I'm comfortable enough to try my hand at learning a few new tricks. Glad to see there is some success among rookies like myself.

Glad to have others new vapors here!! :) I decided to start small to understand how wick and wire coils are setup so when I rebuild other attys then I have a general idea.

4/5 wrap means its 4 full wraps plu the 2 1/2 wraps where the wires meet each other. If you look ant the coil from the top like in the pic you will see 6 wraps but from the bottm you only see five. 5/6 wrap.

Greetings; Thanks, Killaq. I think I get it, but I had best hit the PT coil rebuild tutorial videos again.

I tried reusing some PT coils this morning after doing the rinse-vodka soak-dryburn-rinse routine, and the taste was still pretty raunchy. I think rebuilding is the way to go.

FWIW i'm just about to get a Kayfun 3.1 (clone), so I really need to improve my coil wrapping chops.

Regards
Glenn

Do you wrap coil first then pull wick through?

That's how I do it.

I wrap the coil around a large (approx. 2mm) needle. Others use the smooth end of a small drill bit. I pull the cotton (cooking twine) through the coil using a bead threading needle (Hobby Lobby).

One word of advise. That coil acts like a spring until you get the wick in it. Oops! Now where did that go?

IMHO, cotton tastes sooooo much better than silica.

Okay, just to clarify, micro/nano style means that the coils are touching ... correct?

Yes, they are touching. And no it doesn't create a short circuit. Kanthal wire gets an oxidation layer on the outside

To make a micro coil you wrap it as tight as you can on your form (drill bit, needle, etc.) then you compress it with a pair of pliers or tweezers and torch it. I use the gas burner on the stove. It will stay pretty compact when you release it. A blow torch works best because it's hotter and your pliers will suck alot of heat away from the coil. If it's not real tight I'll mount the coil then fire it on the device until it glows orange then press it together more. This makes it real easy to twist up some cotton and thread it through. It's also a great coil to avoid hot legs that may burn the grommet in the coil head. When you fire it you'll notice it heats from the center outward

Congrats! I just built my first protank coil today too! 5 wraps, 30g, cotton wick. AMAZING. Way better than the stock builds. The flavor is just as good if not better than my dripping attys. I don't have an ohm meter yet, so I'm not going to go crazy... but I'm thinking of trying a microcoil.

First Coil rebuilt..... wasn't bad, took me 4-5 minutes, using cilica 3mm, with kanthal wire 32 gauge, 5 loops,

result wasn't bad at all, got my 15' Cilica wick, 25' Kanthal wire (wire is free ) from E-Bay for $8.10 free shipping, i'm using V-Max battery @ 4.00 volts. nice vape, but looking for a Cloud.:vapor:

will try other settings, and other # of loops, will let you know

Smoke free since 2010, and don't know how many Cigarettes I didn't smoke, and probably saved a lot of money:2c::2c:, but i spent it somewhere else ;-)
