I'm building my first mod. I selected the Atlantis tank, because of its massive vape production @ .5 ohm. So I need a 30w or > mod to handle the low resistance. I found zero with an internal rechargable mini usb style bat. Thoughts on the ipv Mini 30w? I found for about $50. But I need 18650 bats. I keep seeing Sony makes the best. Is this accurate? Does it make a difference what charger I use?

At 30 watts max you can easily use a 20 amp 18650 battery. Either Samsung 25R or LG HE2 are very good and Illumination Supply has the 25R for $6.

At 50 watts you're starting to get close to 20 amps draw with a single battery and I would look for a 30A batt like the Sony VTC4, 2100 mAh. The VTC5 has 2600 mAh, but there are no authentic VTC5's on the market no AFAIK. Illumination Supply has a limited number of VTC4 at $8.50.

Ryedan, or anyone else, enlighten me - I know you can convert the mAh rating into Watt-hours (although I forget how, at the moment; nominal voltage times amp rating?), but can you help me with amp draw for a regulated device?

I know it's not as simple as using the displayed voltage and your coil resistance. I also know there are the two sides, the coil side and the battery side, and it's the battery side that I'm unsure of.

The steam engine battery calculator has a box on the right side labeled "battery drain." You can put in all your settings and it'll show you what the current you're pulling from your battery is.

Thank you, Matt! Dampmaskin's done it again, what a stand-up guy!

Input – the battery

On the battery side, the voltage is whatever the battery has in it at the moment, just like with mech mods. The power, however, is whatever the regulator needs to pull in order to deliver the desired voltage to the atomizer at any given time. So by dividing the power by the (ever decreasing) battery voltage, we find the (ever increasing) current.

I'm gonna get the ipv mini next paycheck.
There's differing mah 18650 bats.
Seen some as high (like me) to 3600 mah.
Does the mini need a specific 18650 bat? thanks all for any feedback
Here's my terrible lil istick trying to chuck clouds....

I actually don't mind the vape production....i'm more into the flavor actually...but i want

this one? what's the diff between imr and inr?
Samsung INR18650 25R 30A 2500mAh High Drain Battery

INR batteries are one of the hybrids available with the best aspects of both IMR and ICR batteries. That middle letter is a signifier for what the cathode in the battery is made of (M=manganese, N=nickel, C=cobalt). As I understand it, the Samsungs are a nickel/manganese/cobalt combination. This gives you the safety and high current capacity of a manganese battery with larger mah capacity that cobalt provides. They're safe batteries, and all of the best vaping batteries these days are actually hybrids - the Samsung 25R (which is the one you linked to above and my top pick), the LG HE2, and the VTC4. If you really want to get into the details, here's more on battery chemistry.

He definitely has. I'm not sure what mod you're using, but many of them actually have the efficiency listed in their spec sheets, so you can fine tune it further to your equipment by adjusting the standard assumption from 90% to whatever you're actually using. For example, the DNA 40 chip specs at 92% efficiency, the SX350 is 93%, the SX350 mini is at 96%, and the latest 150 watt version of the XS330 is 95% (if you're using a mod with an SX based chip, the specs for all of them with efficiency ratings are posted on YiHi's website.

Thanks very much, novamatt. I need to buy batteries for my first mod that is on the way. From doing some reading in this forum, I'm informed on what is required. Thanks for your time.

I just ordered 2 sammys. But I changed my mind on the tank and will go with the Kanger Subtank. For as fast as these sub ohm tanks blow through juice, I'll like the extra capacity. I'll probably get a more practical tank like a Natalus for chain vaping my 36mg Juice :).

Thans
Keep in mind that Aspire has announced a 5ml glass and top hardware kit for Atlantis. I have a 3rd party 7ml kit on the way as well as the Subtank.

Yeah, but Subtank is convertible and It looks prettier. :) I ordered some 100% pg juice, but I kinda f'd the pooch when I got my usual 36mg solution. I have some 24mg that's been sitting around for a while :) I'll get a Nat.mini for my 36mg juice.

Probably want 6mg juice for the Subtank if you plan to use a .5 ohm coil, maybe 12 if you vape 36mg in clearos. Enjoy the Subtank.
