OK Rick, just snagged one and paid...but I have to tell you the prices and #'s of the holders are all over the place...I clicked pay now for # 16..purple heart/walnut/purple heart..the button says $30, and it took me to a price of 29 something (which is OK by me, I think you meant to price it a 35 anyway), but it also says I was buying # 14...which is NOT the one I want..lol..

in any event, it's # 16 please, and please drill out one of the holes to 1.25 all the way..thanks Rick, Jeff

Thanks Jeff! The holder from post #16 has sold.

I'm sorry about the confusion on the holder numbers vs. the post number - if I had started the holder numbers at holder-3 instead of holder-1, that would have been much better - next time.

I made two posts in the thread before I started adding the holders; so holder-1 is in post 3, holder-2 is post 4, so on and so forth. The holder number is 2 less than the post count.

And yes, it was supposed to say $35 - that probably happened around 3am and I was almost head bobbing at that point! I do know that the actual PayPal values when you click the button are correct - unfortunately, I cannot edit posts after 48 hours.

I think that a Contest would be another good way of getting the word out... :D <wink wink, nudge nudge>

Yes! I've been thinking about doing that. I've looked at "ideas for contests" threads and seems many do the "make a post" contest and pick a post number at random.

I'm thinking of a little twist on that theme - rather than post yourself to enter, you have to have an ECF friend pick their favorite holder, and quote that post and mention your ECF name. They in turn can pick a friend to do the same for them. So on and so forth...

If we did it so you had to pick two friends to post, the numbers of posters could spiral...

For prizes, we could do a grand prize of a custom holder - say valued at $70 or less, second prize could be a "stock" holder valued at $50 or less, a third prize of a holder at $30 or less and a few runner up prizes of 25% off a holder.

The winners would be decided by putting all the post numbers in a random number sequencer (random.org) and picking winners 1, 2, 3, etc... from the top of the list on down. The winners would be the person mentioned in the post.

At the cut-off point the last person to post for their friend would be entered as well by my posting for them and mentioning their name.

What do you guys think? Any other ideas? I want it to be easy, not require any real skill, and of course - get many involved.

I've read the post twice, and I still don't get it. Don't be surprized. I never claimed to be the sharpest tool in the shed.

But any contest is a good contest, and I'm sure as soon as I figure it out, this one would be fun.

No worries - I've been told that I have a strange brain...

Lets say you want to enter the contest. To enter you have to ask a friend here on ECF to go to the sale thread for the holders and pick their favorite holder - they quote the post with the holder in it and mention your ECF name. Now you are entered.

This friend that posted and mentioned your name wants to be in the contest too. They do the same thing - ask a friend of theirs (not you) to post in the thread and mention their name - now they are in the contest. So on and so forth.

The last person in the contest would be the person that posted and mentioned their friends name when I close the contest. Because that person can't ask a friend of theirs to post - I post and mention their name for them to enter them into the contest.

It gets more fun if each person has to pick two friends to pick a holder and post for you. You pick two friends, they each pick two friends, on and on.

I'm with the 'dude on this one... And asking people to do something specific and/or think will probably end up being a disaster... LOL!! (or just become a popularity contest)

There is a thread here called "Rate the Avatar Above You"... where people give the previous poster points for their avatar based on how much they like it (or not) ;)
Maybe something like that could work here... like having the poster pick a holder that they think the person above them would like??

I dunno... all of this is more than my poor little kitty brain can handle right now... t09134.gif

ok, I've contacted a buddy here on ECF who might be heading this way tonight...Ratman himself..let's get it started..

Feelin the wood love all around!! Sucker that I am for fine handcrafted wood pieces, I had to come check this out when my man lalasalama8 clued me into what you had going on here Rick. I was pleasantly surprised to see these were the same pieces of art that my wife was drooling over last night and that I had on my 'check this out tonight' list.

One of the coolest things I personally like about vaping is all of the metal and wood craftsman like yourself that have a new avenue to ply their trade and let loose the creativity.

On to the contest! Sweet idea there by the way. I am lovin all over number 30 with the lightly figured walnut. I like classics like this a lot and I think the capacity fits my arsenal best as long as I pick up a second custom one to hold the bottom feeders LoL. My wife and I will be throwing you some business before too long I am sure. Got a couple of VV Grands to pay off first though. Not what you want to hear when doing a grand opening but labor day sales and the new babies really have us strapped.

You will do well tho I am sure if you can hang in there long enough for word to get around. /salute

Whooa there Pardners...

I gots to sets the rules and fire this baby off...

Yes, Ratman has got the idea, but...

Might be better to start it in a new thread anyway... with a link to the Sale one... Just sayin'

I agree - this is going to be be too complicated. I have to close my other thread first (I can only have 2 threads at a time). I want to make this easier to understand and do:

I'll start a new Contest thread. You can only enter the contest one way:

  • You must have a fellow ECF member post your name and their favorite holder number in the contest thread (they go look at the holder thread). When they do, they just entered you in the contest - but not them.

  • Now they have to get someone to do the same thing for them, post their name and favorite holder in the contest thread. It goes on and on.

The contest can start as soon as I make the new thread - and we will let it run for one week - I'll close the thread and enter all the post numbers at random.org to pick the winners.

When a post number is picked as a winner, the name mentioned in the post will be the winner - not the person making the post. Because the person making the post is entering a name in the contest by mentioning it in the post. Follow?

I hope this is simple enough, and it should bring several entries - need some odds to make it exciting - besides, the whole idea is to get some exposure -

What do you think?

Awww, don't feel bad, I've been here for over 3 years. I've chatted with lots of people, but only 3 friends... You can have anyone here "nominate" you into the contest.

I'm not thinkin' they need to be official "friends" friends..lol..just anyone that you might give a shout out to come see Rick's work...

..and no, I didn't think any real contest had started..just a small attempt to generate a little buzz for a nice new thing..

Exactly - any ECF member can put your name in the contest

And thanks for the "contest" posts - nice demonstration

I'll continue to watch for comments today, and if it's a go - I'll make the thread tonight

I'll place the rules for entry into the contest - and list what and how many prizes will be given away - at least 3 holders to start; if this goes crazy - I'll likely add to the prize pool.

Thanks-

Rick
