So I been smoking on disposables for the last couple weeks or so. I am ready to buy a more permanent solution. I am not going to mix my own liquid yet (maybe in the future) and I will never wind my own coils. I want a mid-range probably a Ego or K2. I am looking to spend $50 to get started, I really don't want to have to spend more money than that right away. However I want to get something that I might be able to upgrade at a later date. I am about a pack a day smoker and my wife is a little less maybe a pack a day smoker. I'd like to get 2 units for that price if possible and maybe some juices, I know that I'm not going to get a ton for that cost but at least maybe a week supply? Not sure, any input and links would be helpful. Just when I think I'm going to buy something I see another deal about something similar. Can anyone direct me a little better?

I am pretty tech savy and can probably put something together if I have to.

What do you guys think?

Thanks!!!

Welcome to the forum, I know someone with more experience will be along to give you information. But I will tell you that I have learned with ecigs, you get what you pay for. First of all, going from the disposables to something more permanent will make a HUGE difference in your vaping experience.

Do you have any local shops in your area? They will usually let you sample product and have several models and options in front of you at the same time. For a good starter setup your going to spend at least 50 bucks per person. The great thing is, after you put out the initial money, and you get a good first time setup, your going to be saving a ton of cash. Most places you buy from will probably include a 10ml bottle of juice with your first purchase. As a pack a day smoker a bottle of juice should last you right at a week. So after your initial investment, you're looking at about 8 bucks a week for your habit instead of 8 a day or more.

Also, let me say, make sure you get something with passthrough technology as this will allow you to keep vaping even when its on the charger.

Good luck, your going to love the range of flavors available to you. I was a straight menthol guy, and with all these wonderful flavors its my least favorite now.

You can get a few eGo batteries at Gloryvapes - they have 650mAh eGo-T for around $8 a pop, best deal ive ever seen. Many sites list them for twice as much. I believe they also have a discount code, either tenoff or ........ or something like that. Get the usb charger from there too.
Then go for a few eVods from Quantumvapor, they are running a nice sale on them. Also they have an INSANE deal on juice: around $10 for 30ml.

By my rough calculation, you can get 3 batteries (1 for back up), charger, 2 eVods and 30ml of juice for under $50.

For my first setup I purchased from Discount Vapers
eCig Starter Kit - 1100mah
I purchased the 1100 mah vv kit for $45.99, he also has a 900 mah kit for $42.99 and a 650 mah kit for 39.99. I LOVE my setup, it has been serving me very well for several months now. You click the button to change voltage; I like that the color of the LED changes indicating what voltage you are running at. I just purchased an eGo Twist as a second backup (Discount Vapers kit comes with 2 batteries and Ce4s, plus charger and case, you do need to purchase juice) and am trying to figure out how to figure out what voltage I am running LOL!

Welcome, and I will attest to the fact that a "real" setup is so much better than disposables. I, too, quit nasties with disposables, but the real thing is awesome.

Ask your questions. There is a ton of knowledge here and so many people who will help any way they can. So much info it can be mind boggling, but you can't go wrong with an ego! You can always upgrade later if you wish, but for future compatibility even without variable voltage, an ego is the way to go.

Welcome to ECF and congrats on progressing to the next level of vaping!

This kit is slightly above your $50 limit but is the one I recommend to *everyone* as it gives you everything you need (except some juice) at a price that's very difficult to beat. I recommend the 1300mah "Spinners" be selected in this kit as they will give you the longest run time between charges AND they offer the Variable Voltage feature which should not be underestimated!

i second that choice. i work at a vape store and always suggest an ego batt with an iclear or similar for a starter kit. cant beat that price either

op, you are pretty much out of luck on finding that specific set up with enough juice to last even a few days for that price. if you either raised your price or only went for one batt then maybe it would be possible

OK, I am going to modify my response; just figured out the twist settings and very easy to up voltage in small increments (ok, old bad eyes needed my reading glasses....). The suggestions for Vision Spinners are also an excellent choice, from what I understand very similar to the twist. You will not be disappointed with any of these options!

The Spinner improves upon the twist by adding knurling to the knob at the bottom and easy to read numbers rather than a series of non-descript marks. I think some of the newer twists have numbers now too, for the record. Also I've had a hard time even finding an 1100mah Twist that was relatively cheaper than a 1300mah Spinner... YMMV :)

What's the difference between a spinner and a twist? Why would someone want the twist over the spinner? The spinners are higher mah... Also, are all the parts on this piece easily replaced lets say 6 months from now or if something were to break will I have a hard time finding replacment parts?

Also, will any juice from any vendor work in this?

Also, to respond to the first post... I live in the Quad Cities area (Iowa/Illinois). We have no good shops around here that I am aware of except one of those tececig places in the Mall. It was like $65 (she told me severely discounted) for a mini and a 5 pack of cartiges that last a couple days she said.

I'd suggest skipping this one. The battery is only adjustable to three voltage settings. Getting a Spinner or a Twist will give you more control. The one I suggested, at 900 mah, is only because the 1300 mah kit is out of stock - there. May be available in a kit elsewhere.

Or, mix and match to build your own kit.

That $69 kit from myvaporstore that I linked earlier will let you mix and match twist, spinner, clearo, kanger bottom coils, etc. and any combination will work... that's why they are included as options in a "kit". These are all relatively common parts that any reputable e-cig vendor should stock, should you desire to replace or upgrade something. It is also the lowest price for such a kit I've seen anywhere that you can buy in the USA. Take a look at my earlier post a few back in this thread for the difference between twist and spinner.

The only "stupid" question is the one that you don't ask! Remember, we were all new here once ;)

Yes, for the most part all juices will work in any of those devices. The only real difference in juice is that some of the thicker, darker ones can sometimes clog up the wicks *sooner* than the lighter juices. Wicks are basically filters and any filter will get gunked up sooner or later, it's just a matter of *when*, not *if*.

Ok, I'm making my package now. What's the difference between all the clearomizers or bottom coil? Which is the most logical?

They are actually more similar in design than they are different. Clearomizers have the coil at the TOP of the tank. Bottom coil devices like the Kangers are called "bottom coil" because they are... *drum roll, please*... at the BOTTOM of the tank. They both use similar heating coils and both use similar wicking material. The only real difference is that bottom coil tanks put the heating element an extra inch or so further away from your mouth than a top coil does... Some people believe this produces a "cooler" vape as the vapor has a bit further to travel before it reaches you. Others favor the bottom coil designs because the wicks are always below the liquid, at least until it runs dry. The top coils tend to not work quite as well as the liquid in the tank gets lower and lower. It's really a matter of personal preference and both designs have their fans. Is either better than the other? I doubt it.
