Like others, I got hooked on
five pawns about a year ago. My wife and wallet aren't all that happy that I prefer $27.50 bottles of
juice instead of $8-15 bottles from the local B/M (especially since I vape like a fiend all of the time and go through it like a whino going through Mad Dog).
I had a friend let me try some Bowden's Mate about a year ago. I was hooked immediately. I ventured into trying other FP flavors.
I wasn't a big fan of Absolute Pin. Still haven't made it through my first (and only) bottle. It is a little bitter for my taste. My kids tell me it smells like 'maple bacon'.
I was lucky enough to get some Castle Long reserve when they were making it. Of course, I fell in love with it. I was afraid I would since I didn't think they would make any more. I am happy to see they have added the non-oak barreled version to their line. I have already grabbed two more bottles of the non-oak barreled version. Castle Long is smooth (for me). Nice vanilla and almond flavor. Reminds me of a Macaroon cookie. Very pleasant and easy.
I picked up a bottle of Fifth Rank. Jury is still out on this one. The lime/citrus on the inhale is nice and pleasant. Very different. Very summer like. I like the inhale. Unfortunately, for me, Fifth Rank finishes up with something like black pepper. I can't put my finger exactly on it, but it isn't something that I am liking too much. I'm staying with it for a little longer, at least until the Aerotank that it is in is dry before I decide to refill it or shelve it/give it away. I don't hate it but it is not anything that I would ever imagine becoming an ADV for me. That back end bitter peppery taste is keeping me from liking this as much as I had hoped I would.
What I love about Bowdens Mate and Castle Long is the complexity. You can taste all the flavors, but none are overpowering and therefore dominating over the others.
Queenslide was good but not remarkable enough (again, for me) to make me order more of it. It was a one and out. A little TOO orange for my a tastes. Not as balanced and complex as Castle Long and Bowdens Mate.
So far me, Five Pawns is running about 50%.
Winners:
Castle Long
Bowdens Mate
Eh, not so sure about or just not a fan of:
Absolute Pin (strong, too strong for me. A little too much absinthe for me. A lot more than just an 'undertone' as described.)
Fifth Rank (nice lime citrus inhale but bitter black pepper on the finish)
Queenslide (nothing wrong - just not my style)
I almost wish FP had a no thrills line. Ditch some of the marketing propaganda, high end uppity script lettering, etc and knock $5 off the price of each bottle. I love the little cardboard shipping tubes. Reminds me of mortar rounds. But they go right in the trash. Same with all of the uppity literature that comes with the juices. Right in the trash. If I want to read about the flavors (again), I go to the website (that's part of why you have a website, right?)
So, with all that said, I will order more Bowdens Mate and Castle Long. I like them THAT much. They are my favorites. And when it is time to order those two, I will probably try yet another flavor along with them. So, even though there have been some that I didn't like or still unsure of, the ones I do like, I like enough to keep ordering more of and keeps me willing to try others in the hopes they will be as pleasing as Bowdens Mate and Castle Long.
I have my eyes set on Perpetual Check next. Sixty Four and Lucena have my curiosity peeked but Perpetual Check will probably be next up. Heck, I might order Perpetual Check AND Lucena BOTH next go round.
As always, these are my personal opinions based on my personal likings and observations.
YMMV
