So here's my deal. I started DIYing back around New Years, trying to figure out how to make my liquid's cheaper and more customized to my taste...and because the vendor that I had found my favorite flavor had sent out a couple batches that didn't taste at all like the previous. I mixed up a buncha stuff and settled on a minty mixture that I could make fairly simply, and I've been using that since then, mostly on Dual Coil cartos and DCTs. I alternate between a 3.7v 14500 mod, and a kicked SB set at around 8 watts.

As soon as I got my Penelope, I wrapped up a wick and started vaping on my favorite juice on the SB. At first I noticed that the flavor was more crisp and smooth, but every once in a while I would get a dry hit and get that burning wick flavor. It took me a bit of fiddling to get the liquid control set so that it would keep up better, mostly because this is my first rebuildable. I've only got the one wire at the moment, or I wouldn't have to ask questions about what to do for the next one, I would just experiment. :)

Anyhow, this question is two-fold, I suppose.

First of all: Did I just start my hunt for my all-day flavor over again? As in, does the flavoring come off this that much differently from a carto, that I'm going to have to start mixing differently? Or could it be that the wick got scorched / coil's all gunky?

Secondly: Is it possible that when I installed the wick, that the corners got too sharp for the liquid to flow up it properly? When the wick is in place in the ceramic, should it look more like a U or sort of squared off? |_|?

Thanks for the help/advice!
-X

Edit: Feel free to tell me that I need to sleep more and drink more water. It's true, in either case. I've got a 6 month old and work full time, sleeping unfortunately gets a low priority on my to-do list. :)

Your questions have many variables... many things can change flavor... from the type of res wire you use to how many ohms and to even something as simple as how loose or tight you wrap your coils... even the type of wick you use can change flavoring a bit... then theres cleaning and how you did it and with what can also play a role in flavor change... but no matter what it is the ODY & PENNY will out flavor and out perform anything that comes out of China...

I also had to step down on nicotine with the ody and even more with the penelope. They just out perform everything out there. The penelope specifically has blown me away and has become my go to every day. The original ody was an evening event...the penelope is out with me all the time.

As far as shape, I will leave that to the GG experts. I have done both depending on how crazy my 2 year old daughter is when I need a new set-up. I am not sure the shape has impacted much of what I do, but I do think how loosely I wrap the wire around the wick has mattered more.

Have fun!

Absolutely, how loosely you wrap the wire can have alot to do with the wicking, along with the other variables mentioned in this thread already. Squaring off the corners of the wick
is fine, but if the wire is wrapped too tightly, either on the ends or the whole coil, it chokes it off and the wick can't transfer the juice as it should, which might cause the dry hits sometimes..
It can also cause leaking if you wrap your coil too close to the edge on the side you wrap around the bottom post and it creates too big of a gap when you pull down on that side of the wire to wrap it around the bottom post.
Some like to use a pin, paper clip or small nail held right next to the wick when wrapping a coil, both for extra stability during wrapping and the first part of wick assembly and because
when you remove it, it creates a small amount of slack for that not too tight not too loose balance you're looking for:)

Quite simply put yes the taste is different. Anyone that reads ohms before they adjust voltage already knwos where the sweet spot for there juice. Knowing this and just applying penelope in kanthal wire nextel wick and silver 999 non resistance wire to mix Mmm one word

HEAVEN

Now using different volts, wicks, wires will it change flavor? of course it would. its a matter of knowing what is your sweet spot. Certain juices as you know may do well with high temps using a higher ohm setting like 2.5 3.0 etc. When others will fail anything less than 2ohm to raise that volt to 5v-6v is pretty much suicide the flavor is not the same u get fast burn and juice hog. So pretty much find your your sweet spot. do you like to vape at 4.8v or 5v or at 6v. Find your sweet spot with the right ohm coil then fiddle with your juice creation.

From my experience my juice that I have has a better taste and the mechanical sense it last longer without me needing to refill and re wet.

I would like to try the kick but i don't think it will work on my ProVari do to size limitation.

Kick wouldn't work on provari because of the provari's electronics anyways. Personally I like my Kick better then 3.7v but it doesn't produce enough heat for me especially with Ody and Penelope.
