I'm just starting out and I'm wondering how many ml of flavoring to use. The calculator starts it at 20% but that seems like a bit much. Any advice or suggestions will be truly appreciated.

Really depends on what flavors you're using and personal taste. Some are strong and some are sweeter but you can get away with using less if you let it sit in the dark a few weeks.
Hi and welcome! The amount of flavoring to use is based on the recipe you want to make. If you input the percentages of each item, nic, PG, VG and then the percentages of the flavorings and the total volume you're making.. The caluclator should then tell you how many mls of each you'll need to use.
Most of my mixes use 2-5% flavor, depending on the flavor and recipe. 20% seems a bit much, but that's just my opinion. I'd say start out small, then work up until you get the flavor you want.
My ADV is 15% flavoring, but I worked up to that and it's what I wanted it to taste like. Mix a couple of small batches with 5-10-15% flavoring, allow to steep a couple of weeks and taste. You can try speed steeping to accelerate the process but then adjust flavoring % based on which one you like. The process takes quite a while but in the end it's worth it to have delicious juice and the money you save not having to buy retail juice is the cherry on top.

Tell us what flavors you are using and we may have a better idea of what you are doing.
Most of my recipes are 10% or less (as low as 3%), but there are some that go as high as 20%. For my I do what works for me. Start low and work your way up. In my (very) limited experience, there is a point when flavoring goes from good/great to uuugh and it could be just going up 1%.
Different brands and flavours require different percentages. Ideally the manufacturer/vendor should provide information on suggested percentages. If not, tell us what you're using and perhaps someone here has experience with those particular brands and flavours.

Welcome and glad you joined. You may need a new calculator. Note that this calculator starts our "flavor 1 = 15%. Just click on 15 and change it to any percentage you desire.

To determine a flavor percentage, it's all about the flavor your using and the mix you plan to make. Some single flavor mixes need 0.2 to 11 ml.s or more. The strength/type of flavor, intended vaper's taste bud sensitivity all play a role in determining the amount of flavor to introduce to a single mix recipe.
If you plan to mix several flavors in one mix, the percentage used in a single mix can change.
There are percentage recommendations from the flavor blenders that give a mixer a rough starting point. The Flavor Apprentice (TFA), as an example, suggest 5% as a rough starting point for most single and multiple flavors mixes.
There charts for TFA that recommend starting percentages for each flavor.

In fact there's this one very specific flavor I use that I mix at a fraction of a percent (by itself) for a 30 ml batch; it's that strong.
Start with a low percentage of flavor. I generally start a new flavor at 5% (that's all flavoring combined, not individually, if you're using more than one flavoring), and then increase as needed. Most of the time I need to increase the flavoring, but I find it easier to add more flavoring than dilute an over flavored batch.
