After debate, I feel inspired by Obama to address you all as...

Folks-

So I've been a big fan of the vape thing, I've gone back to smokes here and there, but vaping has enabled me to go days at a time without smoking... which I never did before.

But this is a weird thing I'm noticing, and which bothers me and makes it harder to be a smoke-free vapor loyalist...

I started with a hazelnut coffee... after a day or two, I didn't really taste anything.

I replaced that with Gansta's ParadICE... The flavor on that stayed, mostly due to the menthol, but the other flavors seemed to drop out and became less satisfying over the course of a few days.

Then I got a naturally extraced Perique - which tasted like a campfire and I actually really enjoyed it. It seemed to be holding pretty strong, when the mouthpiece on my Vivi Nova broke and I'm still waiting on my replacement drip tip.

So I filled my other clearomizer with my VapeRite VR4 that I had been waiting to use... Loved it at first, but the past day or so I've been adjusting voltage and playing around with it trying to taste it...

At this point, the only thing that I have tasted consistently for several days is the Perique, on a 2.4 ohm Vivi Nova

Everything else has been on my 1.8 ohm Ego Clearomizer.

I'm using a KGO VV with all of these. Adjusting voltage to try and find a sweet spot.

To stay away from cigarettes, I need these things to hit hard and have a decent flavor that persists.

On the Hazelnut and the Gangsta's ParadICE I was at 24mg, on the Perqiue and the VR4 I'm at 18mg.

I'd like to reduce nicotine intake, but in order to get a satisfying throat hit and decent flavor, do I have to go to 24mg Perique, maybe even add Cinnamon or Menthol for some extra bite, or am I doing something wrong? I'm coming from unfiltered full flavored American Spirits, and I definitely need a significant bite with a strong flavor to not be itching for something else...

Ideally I'd like to ween down to 6 mg and then maybe even do 0 mg... but if I'm losing flavor and bite on high nicotine juices, it seems unlikely that I'll get a satisfying smoke at lower levels...

Any input is appreciated, I just want to make sure this stuff work for me so I can stop the real smoke.

I went from smoking a pack a day to vaping almost exactly a month ago, and only had one cigarette about three days after I quit. I think the main issue is probably your taste buds. Once you actually quit, they will start to grow back and you will be able to taste the softer and more subtle flavors easier. In the meantime, I would reccomend getting a bottle of something strong and mixing it in with your other flavors. I got some 36mg Wintergreen Nobacco Juice from Vapor4Life, and some 18mg LiQUA™ High Quality Italian eJuice Menthol from GotVapes. I usually mix about a quarter to a third of one of these juices and the rest of whichever flavor I'm currently using. I tend to prefer the fruity flavors more. For a week or so, I was really into mixing 1/3 Wintergreen with 2/3 Wild Berry from myPVshop. My go-to mix for the past two weeks has been 1/4 of the Liqua Menthol and 3/4 of Boz Berry Melon from XT9cigs. I keep my 3.5ml Vivi Nova filled with the Berry Melon/Menthol mix and carry a couple Stardusts full of other juices in case I want to switch it up. I also would recommend getting as many flavor samplers from different sites as you can, just like when you started smoking, you need to figure out what flavors/brands you prefer. I'm still pretty new so there are probably people with better advice for where to buy juices, but the four that I mentioned have all done me pretty well.

Part of my issue is I'm already just about $120 in. Bought a KGO VV, an Ego Clearomizer, and two flavors... that was $50. Then I bought a vivi nova, and two more, bigger bottles of juice, another $50. Then I broke the drip tip on my Vivi Nova, so I ordered a new drip tip, along with a Smoktech Redux, two replacement heads for my Vivi Nova, and two replacement heads for my Smoktech Redux... now I just spent $5 ordering one of MadVapes new 4.0 ohm redux heads...

So I've spent $120, and I'm optimistic but hesitant based on my experience. I really want to have a a setup that will knock it out of the park, but I'm afraid I'm going to need to replace my KGO, or get an extra one, and also I need something I can fill my Vivi Nova with that will kill it with both flavor and throat hit consistently...

I think, even though I didn't smoke menthol cigarettes, that maybe I should just start adding menthol to everything I vape to enhance flavor and throat hit... I'm afraid of the 36 mg nicotine, but may have to do it.

My concern is that throwing nicotine at the problem will mean I'm increasing my nicotine intake from analogs, making my addition worse, just to make the physical sensation more satisfactory...

I'll see how things work with all the new gear when it arrives. I'm thinking that maybe if I just blend my Perique (the strongest most satisfying flavor I've gotten) with menthol I might have a winning combo for me.

Heather's Heavenly Vapes has some of the best juices I've tried so far with strong taste and awesome throat hit. Might give them a try with some samples and see if that helps any. I'm only a little over 2 weeks in and am still having the taste issue on some juices too but Bah-In from HHV is one of my favorites so far and doesn't get old.

I hope you are right. I have been vaping around a month now and have yet to find a flavor I love. I ordered from quite a few places and most of the flavors I have gotten are either too sweet or taste very perfumey or like chemicals. I do like the chocolate that highbrow vapors threw in as a freebie with my order. It was good right out of the mail. I didnt like the ry4 though. It tasted like perfume. I didnt like the flavors I got from bwb either. They were not terrible just not to my liking. I have placed a few orders this week hoping to get a go to flavor. I ordered from bluemist, hhv, and delightfulvapors this week. Hopefully I will have a happy and vapor filled weekend. I wish my hhv order would have shipped today as they are only 3 hours away and should arrive in one day.

BTW, I am fully tasting my food now and man did I put too much salt in it...

Except for the Black Cherry Marshmallow, all the fruit flavors I've tried from Virgin Vapor are spot on for the real thing. They don't add sweeteners.

I have some Highbrow Tabac de Perique that tastes nasty [perfumy] from a fresh opened bottle. I let mine steep for a week before using it. It tastes even better after 3 weeks.

Your taste buds as well as your sense of smell are going to go in and out as you get off analogs. It might SEEM they get better after having a cigarette then trying an electronic but dont fool yourself. If you can stick out for a few weeks or months (it varies from person to person) your taste buds will come back along with a lot of other things.

You may want to learn how to drip. I understand that brings out the most flavor. You may also learn how to add extra flavor in the DIY stickies.

That's nothing. It seems like a lot now, but if this turns into a hobby for you that number will turn into thousands. I don't even want to know how much I've spent on vaping in the last 2+ years.

$120 is roughly two cartons of cigarettes. A lot of people would burn through those in a 2-3 weeks (or less) and have nothing to show for it other than some butts sitting in an ashtray. Vaping is expensive when you start out, but once you get a device or two and some liquid that you like it becomes much cheaper. I'm at the point where I spend probably $30-$50 a month on vaping supplies if I don't buy any new mods. If you get into DIY liquid and rebuilding it will cost you even less. Vaping is cheaper than smoking in the long run.

The 36mg is a lot, I don't vape it straight, I combine it with a lesser mg juice, 18/16mg and only do a part of it. It's really the flavor I'm going for. I don't even really use the wintergreen that much any more, mostly just the 18mg menthol I have. I just think that if you are trying to get off of analogs, you need to have that intensity of flavor and throat hit. Once your tastebuds start to readjust it's pretty easy to dial down the strength of the juice you are using. I went from about 24 to 16 with no issue at all.
Also, I would really reccomend the eGo Twist, the variable voltage really helps to get the best out of whatever juice you are using.
Also, I'm about $400 in so far, so I know how it feels, but if you think about it, it truly is worth it in the long run. Once you find what truly works for you, you will start saving and only be spending $30 a month or so on juice.

Most of experience this as well. When new to vaping the tastebuds are a mess, coming, going and disappearing altogether. Usually last a couple of weeks at the most

BUT

many of us find that "losing flavor" is common. We vape two or three different flavors a day, some by choice and some find it necessary. I find that after 3-4 hours my juice loses its taste and I switch to a completely different flavor and the taste difference is amazing. I often switch between mochas and melons. Really keeps my mouth watering! This really sounds like what you are experienceing.

Here is a very helpful thread http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/fo...what-do-you-do-when-your-taste-buds-fail.html where several members have the same problem and offer suggestions (lime juice, salt water) to shake up the tastebuds. I tried both of these suggestions and THEY WORK!!

Don't give up, what you are experienceing is disappointing but not uncommon!

Been there...done that...still going there...still doing that. 2+ months in and smoke free after 3 pad and 40 years of smoking. My biggest expense has been juice. At first I thought I would have to have tobacco taste...no fruity sweet stuff for me. But that has all changed. After dozens of sample I have discovered that I like fruit...who new. And yes the flavors seem to change over time...either the juice changes or buds change...I haven't discovered which. Most juices don't hit their peek for 2-3 weeks, but, since I usually only get smaller samples, I have no idea if they loose flavor as time goes by. Anyway, I've "settled" on a couple for now while I continue the search. Both are from Heathers Heavenly Vapes. Sweet Swish is just what the name implies...a cheap cherry cigar. It's very cherry at first but mellows over time. My current favorite is Georgia Peach tobacco...again very peachy at first, but mellows into a very good vape after a couple of weeks. I have mostly stayed with 24mg...but like you, I hope to get that down at least to 18mg. Good luck.
