OK, I know that this might cause a bit of debate, and I am ranting, but hear me out and think about it....

I was thinking, What was the reason I picked up my first smoke @ 15? I remember the first time I got a pack. I was standing outside at my bus stop on a cool morning and a pack of unopened Marlboro reds was laying in the ditch. I picked it up like it was the holy grail and I took it to school. At lunch I went out back where all the smoker kids and an old lunch lady hung out and lit up and smoked up a storm to the point I was sick. But why did I even do that in the first place? I never had a desire to smoke before that point. I thought long and hard about it, and the only thing I could think of is because it was "illegal" for me at the time. It was the rebellious thing to do. "They" told me I couldn't do it so I wanted to and the opportunity was there. After that pack that I found, I would only go on to have maybe 20-30 more smokes total through the rest of high school, but I was already addicted and didnt even know it, and picked it up again legally @ 18.

Now honestly, do you think I want to see teens smoking? No I do not, not one bit. Do I want to see them using ecigs? Again, No I do not. However, IF I had to choose between the two, I would most defiantly rather them to choose choose an ecig. I wish that in my younger years that instead of going down the path of smoking, that some kid would of handed me an ecig instead. I more then likely would of been "yeah that's cool w/e not for me" and moved on. If not, at least I would have been vaping for all this time up until now. I know people get in up in arms about kids getting a hold of ecigs. But IMHO those kids are going to end up smoking anyways. You know, as well as I know its true. I know many smokers personally, as well as a few threads on here that people stated smoking younger, some times way younger then legal. I do not promote it, and it is against the law, but for the kids who are going to do it anyways IMO its the lesser of two evils.

Anyways, that is just my opinion on the matter, and take it as you will.

*end rant*

they're going to do what they want to do anyway and now that e-cig are about more and more I'm sure they'll be doing that too, you see them advertised on tv and I was at samclub today and right next to the nicorette and patches was a display for mistic e-cigs so teens will make their own choice just like we did right or wrong

The only problem that there is, is that yummy flavored e-cigs could start teens into the whole smoking scene. They may go from e-cig to cig. I started smoking because I wanted to fit in with my best freind, who smoked, at age 11 I tried my first cig. It didn't help that my mom smoked either. Of course it would be better if ALL smokers switched to e-cigs, but that probably wont happen, unless by some miracle the FDA found it a must, and ENCOURAGED everyone to make the switch. They wont do that because the government makes too much money off of cigarettes. But for now, we have to encourage the "media" that this is not for kids, or for anyone who doesn't smoke, only for people to quit smoking because we don't want it to looklike a wonderful world of inhaling candies and cake ect.. We absolutly don't want to market to teens, thats the sure fire way to get this miracle banned. So, I agree, a way better path than cigs for teens, but we just don't want to make that a "public idea".

My guess is that at 15 you figured your parents wouldn't approve. :)

Maybe if teens saw more parents vaping instead of smoking they wouldn't get the idea to smoke analogs.
Most smokers come from a family that smoked, so if the cigs are replaced by PVs maby the chain could be broken.
Definitely not for sale to minors, ecig contain nicotine an addictive substance. If as an adult they want to make that decision, so be it but until they have the ability to give full informed consent, access must be restricted.
Anyway best way to make something attractive to a teenager is to disapprove of it ;)
Ecigs aint cool, kids laugh at them, the FDA are so out of touch on this its ridiculous.

This is what I've observed thus far.

+2 to that, some kid saw me with my Provari and called me "A Fossil Crackhead with a Crackpipe" LOL

As far as this goes, yes, you will probably get the "holier than thou" feedback from the folks who's children obviously could never ever break any law what so ever and can do no wrong. But I do agree that kids will do what kids do, and that is pretty much whatever we as adults tell them NOT to do.

Better of Two Evils??? In My Opinion, yes Ecigs are the Better of Two Evils. Although that Being Said, if my Kids get caught with either in their hand before they are of legal age they will be Grounded until the turn 18.

Just my Two Cents;

If parents smoke in the house, I'm pretty sure kids grow up already addicted to it. I never realized that cigs had any smell at all as a kid. I have a hard time believing that kids of nonsmokers could get away with it, as I would figure that the scent on their clothes would be really obvious.

This is how a friend of mine moved out at 16... just sayin'.

Remember who you are talking at in this forum. We are smokers and know why you started smoking. You thought it would make people like you more. Try not to have the same attitude about ecigs.

Yeah, I kinda doubt that will happen anywhays because both of mine raise a fit everytime they are anywhere near a smoker. LOL Kinda embarrassing at times because they Drama it up with the waving hands in front of their faces and the fake cough and the whole nine yards.

I too will definitely be able to tell though if they have a cigarette or are even anywhere near one. I can smell it now when I am sitting in my living room and my neighbor lights one up. Kinda creepy how the sense of smell comes back after you quit smoking.
