Is it possible...........

That someone could write a script for a given user, upon that user's request, i.e. write the script so that you just plug in the username variable once the request was officially made.
  1. That gave links to any posts that contained "photobucket" in the path of images?
  2. Then allow that user "edit" privileges over just those posts for "X" amount of time?
I for one have hundreds of pis scattered across dozens of threads, many of which are hundreds of pages long. Except for 2 or 3 threads, I wouldnt even know where to find them all.

I would love to go in and fix my history, as without the pics many/most of those posts are now worthless.

I know this was deemed unfeasable, but I know I could give a simple search and replace set of strings that would fix all my posts.
  • Replace "http://*.photobucket.com/*/mike_petro"
  • With "https:/newpath.com/gallery/images"
  • this assumes the filnames themselves havent changed, which in my case they havent as I kept Photosucket's mangled filenames.
This would fix probably 99% of my broken posts.

Doesn't quite work that way with forum software. As I stated earlier, it would have to be done directly in the database, and that's not something that's going to be taken lightly on a site of this size.

Seems some of the addon developers are busy making addons that will allow a site to scrape the URLs and then save the images locally. This is something I'll need to discuss at length with the higher ups.

Well I was annoyed, yet again, with FotoBucket as the removed their link to contact customer support. (Least I could find it). I had a prior contact email so I just email with this addy: "support @ photo bucket.com".

I emailed 'it' asking if they disabled album downloads because for the past 2 days I have not been able to do a download.

Much to my surprise, 3 hrs later I had this response. Maybe there's hope for my downloads. There's nothing important 'up there'. It's just a matter of principle now.

Hello there!

We are very sorry for the inconvenience that this has caused you. This is a known issue affecting several users and our engineering team is troubleshooting the problem. We will get this resolved as soon as we can!

In the meantime, you can still download your images with the following steps

  • Step 1. Login to your Photobucket Account

  • Step 2. Navigate to your library page

  • Step 3. View a photo and click the download button

  • Step 4. The picture will be saved to your computer
Thank you for your patience and again, we are terribly sorry for this inconvenience!

Well it's been 6 days and the FuBucket engineers haven't fixed the download album issue. But, for $2 i found a way to do it. I loaded Chrome to my Macbook, then added this add-on for $2. It adds it's own download button to your FuBucket pages. I successfully download all 3700+ pics's from my 28 albums. Worked liked a charm. The largest album had 883 pic's and it went pretty quick.

I'm pretty good at any database, even if I've never seen it before. I've even written my own DB system from scratch. One person could easily do it, but to do it for one person that maintained the obfuscated filenames and just change the domain would be a lot of trust passed around just for you.

My guess, isn't going to happen, but I could do it in about an hour if given access.

Of course it is possible for a DBA.
The only needed for this operation are pairs of filenames
<old>, <new>
and some DBA action.
