Found a Great Cartomizer Cap Tool

So I got tired of using whatever came to hand for removing the caps off my cartomizers. I started off with a modified paper clip but after a couple of stubborn caps it lost the hook I had put in it.

Anway, I was wandering around Hobby Lobby and ended up in the yarn working department. Glancing around, I noticed the crochet hooks and a lightbulb went off. It's small enough to slide through the hole in the cap, and the hook on the end is just perfect for grabbing the groove in either soft cap or o-ring without getting hold of the batting underneath. Very cool.

I think what I picked up was a #4 or 8mm but if you decide to get one, take a carto for comparison to be sure.

i use a drywall screw (screw it in, and pry it out) or a dental pick. but a small crochet hook is a great idea!

I used to use a small hex (Allen) wrench. It worked just fine. But then, I discovered the carto condom refill method. Much better refill method.

if you have a Harbor Freight Tools in your area, they usually have a sets of dental picks for around $5, handy for 1001 jobs... but, i'm with NCC, the Carto Jimmies is the way to go.

I crochet so I have these at hand. I like that it doesn't scratch or bend the cap. The hubs was using a tool from work (don't remember, something fiddly for jet repair) and he actually kidnapped one of my hooks to take with him.

I use the levers from one of the black paper clips known as bulldog clips. They have the two silver butterfly levers you press down to open the clip. Remove those and you have two peices that you can use to remove caps. They have blunt ends and are very short so it doesn't touch the wire.

I use a metal shower curtain hook. It is exactly the right size for me.
