I started vaping 2 weeks ago.
Still on some look alikes, but looking to move bigger.

I'm annoyed that my friends think it's great I stopped smoking,
but give me hell for vaping!!!

I think two weeks without a ciggie should give me a high five!!
Plus, I don't drink coffee or eat refined sugar, and drink green tea for my caffeine.

Any ideas how to clue friends into the healthy changes we are making??

Congrats on making the switch! Unfortunately some people aren't going to understand. Especially if they are non smokers to begin with. You can try to educate them if you like by explaining that your body is no longer addicted to all of the harmful & deadly chemicals in cigarettes & that nicotine is no more harmful for you than caffeine. But honestly you don't need their approval...although it would be nice to have the support. Some of my friends kinda looked at me funny. Over time they started to understand that I'd made a positive change even though I still have the desire for nic but for me it didn't really matter what they thought. I made the change for me just like you made the change for YOU! Be proud of yourself!!

the one thing i learned from my last 2 attempts, don't look to your friends for support. share what they say, and lets discuss it and prove them wrong. your support system is right here. don't listen to anyone but yourself. as smokers we have lots of practice doing that. we should all be experts in that field. just apply the same commitment from smoking., and apply it to vaping. if you fell better vaping continue to do so. if not there are always the suicide pills, patches, and whatever. your body should be telling you if you feel better. in one month you are going to be eating nails. so buck up, friends usually just wait for smokers to fail, so they can feel smug and superior. as Mr miaggi once said it's all balance. have good balance, have good life. have bad balance, have bad life. focus eey Daniel son.

She just can't past the fact that they are called electronic cigarettes.

I can't bring myself to call them that anymore since the devices I use are absolutely nothing like a cigarette. Perhaps you can change her mind with a bit of change in the terminology.

And to the OP, a saying I was reminded about the other day is that people don't pick on you if they don't like you. But even still, you can't really worry about what other people think if you want to be successful at this. You know you're doing much less harm to yourself through vaping. Best thing really would be to point them towards some references to find out how successful vaping has been in getting many people to quit smoking and how much better it is for us (as far as we know anyway). Otherwise, ignore them and keep up the good work. :thumb:

I work in surgery with nurses and surgeons, and in conversation I would bring up that I had quit smoking. They all say great, how'd you do it? I tell them I'm using an electronic cigarette. (I've advanced to a Provari with cartotanks.)

They generally say, how long do you think it will be that until you can give those up, too?

I explain that for me it is a nicotine replacement, and although I have dropped the nicotine strength of my liquid from 24mg to 12mg, I'm quite content to vape at that level for some time to come. I enjoy vaping, and I don't plan on quitting.

A few of the surgeons said, "Well you know nicotine is bad for you." So I tell them, that as far as I know all studies of nicotine have been from the use of tobacco cigarettes, not nicotine alone. Nicotine is classified as a stimulant not unlike caffeine, and as far as I can tell, nicotine is no more harmful than that half pot of coffee that you drink all day long."

That generally leaves them speechless. :D

My personal physician approves, and calls it my "water pipe".

On a side note, I think whoever began calling these personal vaporizers "e-cigarettes" did the entire industry a disservice. Anything connected with the designation of cigarette gives it a bad name and impression. I try the best that I can to call what I use a PV or personal vaporizer. And if that causes confusion to someone that I am explaining it to, I say it is an alternative nicotine delivery device, not unlike nicotine gum or patches.

Tell them to switch from potato chips to rice cakes or from tv to books or something else. We all have our vices and if we can find a better one to replace the bad one then good for all of us.

They should stop being so narrow minded and see the progress.

Don't let them discredit or demoralize what you have done. They won't switch their vices so easy.

Dude! You're from LA! The land of perpetually mixed messages.

"Hi. I'm Kimberly. I only eat vegan and it has to be certified organic too. I exercise seven days a week. But I'm not crazy about it - I only exercise until I puke to keep my weight down. Don't I look gorgeous? I've had so much plastic surgery my boobs don't bounce any more."

    Something like that.

So they think it's great you quit smoking, but are ...... all over the way you did it? In La-LA land you could get buried under opinions and mixed messages. In this very particular battle to stay away from smoking, the only opinion that matters is your own.

I know that when I look in the mirror I see a different person than the smoker I used to be. I don't hack and cough in the morning, I can take a flight of stairs without gasping, and my sex life has gotten better. As a bonus I've lost 10 pounds since I have all the wonderful juice flavors to cure my sweet tooth. Vaping has been a huge boost to my lifestyle, and I couldn't give a blue damn about some uninformed yahoo's bad opinion of it. I can explain the benefits to anyone who cares to listen, but for some it's always going to be just another version of cigarette smoking. It's just annoying to have someone look down on you for vaping, then try to tout the advantages of their world class albino midget porn collection. We all have hobbies, don't judge me for mine and I won't judge you for yours.

I just ignore all the people who are not willing to understand. I find its easier to just smile and walk away.

I never feel comfortable saying personal vaporizer, and calling it that sort of confuses most people. I think they tend to get "other ingredients and uses" in their head. The name e-cig was because they originally were the shape of cigarettes and it just stuck. I feel kinda silly calling it an e-cig also.

I just call it my vaporizer. After all, Personal vaporizer makes me say, what is the alternative? A public vaporizer, community vaporizer? :)
