The e-cig biz is one of the few with a touch of the Wild West left in it. Snake oil salesmen abound, buyer beware.

Now that is no BS PI !! there is NO control in this business , there will be some coming soon ( at least where Notcigs is concerned )

So would this be a good time to stock up on DIY nicotine base? I don't know if there is another purpose for it or not.

I've been very concerned about this. I smoked for almost 38 years. Quit for 3 years, then made the mistake of having one cigarette. That was 3 years ago. Within a few months, I was back up to 2 1/2 packs a day, and I tried everything to quit. I was always told that if you quit once and go back to it, it's even harder to quit the second time around, and I for one can say it's absolutely true.

Anyway, got my first GOOD ecig (tried the ripoff ones last summer, threw them away) as a Christmas present from a friend. I stared using it January 1st. The very first day, I went from 2 1/2 packs a day to 5 cigarettes a day. In one weeks time, I was down to 1 cigarette a day (Because I still had some) and about 2 weeks later, quit completely. So I haven't had a cigarette since about the first week in February.

If they ban these things, they will literally be killing me. And many others who have had great success quitting smoking using these devices.

In summary, the government really sucks at times.

...wait a minute; maybe they can: "The Agency intends to propose a regulation that would extend the Agency’s “tobacco product” authorities in Chapter IX of the FD&C Act, which currently only apply to certain specifically enumerated “tobacco products,” to other categories of tobacco products that meet the statutory definition of “tobacco product” in Section 201(rr) of the Act. The additional tobacco product categories would be subject to general controls, such as registration, product listing, ingredient listing, good manufacturing practice requirements, user fees for certain products..."

Regulation of E-Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products

Tax? User fee?

...Semantics?

User fees would be fees that have to be paid by those that must be FDA certified. e.g. Juice makers will have to pay "user fees" to the FDA to have their products and facilities considered to meet FDA guidelines. This may included paperwork. inspections testing. etc.

Taxes will be levied by Congress or other legislative bodies.

Right. But by whatever terminology or who imposes it on who, how will it play out? Could the FDA require certifications so stringent—and fees so draconiian—that only an entity with very deep pockets could meet and absorb? Someone like a large pharmaceutical or tobacco interest, for instance?

There is always that potential PI , But I think the Community is going to have to step up and make them-selfs heard ! , there is a process they have to go through that includes public input and these decisions can be sent to court by companies that do not agree like SE did !
