Durant, Ok
Today at lunch I walked down to Jack in the Box (similar to McDonalds for anyone that doesn't know) And the place was crammed so I decided to sit out on the patio and enjoy the weather (its only 95 out today) so I was sitting outside playing with my ipod vaping away not thinking any thing of it and I look up and about half the people inside were staring at me. My guess is because I have a habbit of scratching my forehead with the "burning" end of my ecig when I'm thinking. After about 20 min or so one of the people inside gets the courage to come outside and talk to me. Her reaction though was priceless. She walked up to me and says "Please don't think me rude, but what the hell are you smoking??" Literally word for word. And the look on her face was totally priceless and confused. I of course was more than willing to show off my favorite toy and politely offered her a drag and as she smoked probably 1/4 of a cig worth of my cartridge I explained to her how it works and gave her the URL to Phil's site. She walked away acting like a little kid that found a new toy. Sadly though i was forced to scarf down my lunch in only 5min because of our conversation.

And here on this side of the pond I was testing the waters too with deep trepidation - at Waterloo train Station in London! Yup - right in the middle of the terminal with all those anti smokers around.8-o

I had several responses just like yours Ryle, and my juice was vaped flat by the 'samplers'. Think they liked it! Mmmm maybe too much for my liking...:) But will write up more about it later on.

I just thought it was quite funny that we got the same reactions - in different parts of the world. More power to the e-cigs shoulder! :D

Dont hide brunette, peoples reactions in me experiance seem to be more funny than not. Everyone stares but very few have the gall to actually ask what you're doing. For me this lady's wording and the look on her face expecially were too funny. It was all i could do not to blow soda out my nose at her lol.

Ruby, I probably would have sat in the middle of the seating area inside vaping away if it wasn't so crowded. (I'm moderatly anti social) and the weather is nice outside. I was walking around the mall the other day puffing away and do it all the time at the grocery store. :oops:My e-cig is like a pacifier to me almost lol though I'm not sure which i do more, chew it, or vape it lol

I know how you feel, here they've banned smoking in all public buildings (including hotels and apartment buildings) and you're not allowed to smoke within 25ft of any entrance to a public building, this includes doors and windows, even ones that never get used! Some places you cant even smoke outside, like at the medical center where my doctor's office is, you cant even smoke n your car, you have to walk across the street or you'll get a ticket. They're now talking about passing a law that you get fined like $50 per cigarette per child if you're caught smoking in a car with anyone under the age of 18. I think the anti-smokers have gone completely insane to be perfectly honest lol Though I've spoken to people in other parts of the US and I believe it's TN, or maybe IL, I cant remember which but a lady was telling me that there you can't even walk down the street smoking a Cig. I also heard that in California professional drivers (truckers and such) can't smoke in their rigs while driving through Cali unless they own their own rig and can prove that they spend atleast 50% of the year in their truck and can therefore claim its a residence as well. This sort of insanity is actually what recruited me to the E-cig, the health bennifits are just icing on the cake for me

what sort of e-cig do you have?
When I first got mine it was a black 901 with a blue LED and it only created mild interest and people only asked me about it when i was standing around talking to a lot several smokers at once. but since I got my orange LED battery I seem to be getting a better reaction out of people. Which Is the #1 reason I ordered the orange LED I'm practically begging for trouble. All of the stories I've read on here sound like fun :p

LOL - you lot crack me up!:D

I SOOOO want to be brave but I fess up that I first located what I think was the head guy of security in Heathrow, via customer service, to ask permission to vape. He had absolutely no problem with it at all :thumb:. In fact he was trying to reassure me it was fine - LOL. But I was still nervous so I asked him to write his name on the back of my e-cigs card as extra security lol! Talk about being a woess! In my defense I am a very brainwashed ex-smoker.

Got a LOT of people coming up out of curiousity replete with surprised looks. Lot's of big :thumb:'s specially from smokers who thought it was amazing. Also got some low down dirty looks, even though my 901 does not look like a cig. Mmmmm. But no one dared to come up & gun me down.

I vaped on the tube platform too - but was largely ignored down there maybe it is air deprivation or something. First few times I was bricking it so much I swallowed all the vape and had a vile coughing fit. Later I let it out and thought if I had too - I could flash the card. I was sooo tempted just to vape in the train - but I just could not summon up the guts to do it. Next time maybe. :)

I went to Sothebys - the cafe there - good food btw if anyone is ever in that part of London, and full of confidence asked to vape there. No go!:( And I thought they were into art - what the heck do they think this is then??? Silly gits. But it's okay to exhibit parts of animals and baby calves in formaldehyde. That's 'contemporary'... I started out on this tack but the manager had a don't give me any lip about him, so I shrunk back and went to the loo where I vaped away in silent revenge.

Sooo, quite a day - I still don't know if we should ask permission? Or if we just vape as we please? What do you think? (Aside from you Ryle. You are my brave hero!!!)

901 - I used an orange and blue - the orange def scored for shocked/suprised looks. The blue scored for people coming up to ask me 'what the heck is thattttttt!:D

Glad I can make you laugh :D I spend more time trying to make people laugh than I do trying to seem smart and that's saying something! LOL
And you shouldn't call me you're hero.. lol look up Emp's smoking in public stories, some of them have had me in tears they were so funny. I'm just a trouble maker, the e-cig just gives me a new avenue to try and get under ppl's skin ... I'm contemplating getting a white 901, sure that would stirr up more trouble, just not a fan of the color white in general though.. so I'm still undecided. Besides I've only been esmoking 2 weeks and I've already spent over $200 8-o on the habbit, waiting til payday and I'm going to spend more hahahaha

LOL you're probably the 3rd person to suggest the ecigar, I'm sort of scared to, to be honest, I like my mini *pout* but I think before all is said and done I'll end up trying both a cigar and a Penstyle. Maybe in a check or two I'll hit phil up for the penstyle, don't know about the cigar though, I like dealing with phil and he doesnt cary them. Maybe I'll ask him about it when he gets back from Mexico :p

LOL - honestly Rusty, thats bloomin hilarious!!! I can't wait for someone to ask me for a light now.... lol

I'm starting to think I should have bought the black 901, less likely that people will think i'm smoking then and I could give it a go indoors. Wanted something that looked like a cig tho so I didn't look silly in front of the other smokers!!

UK is nearly as bad Ryle - can't smoke in hospital or doctors car parks here either, and cannot smoke anywhere which is enclosed on three sides, or near a window/door etc!! It is madness and we all get treated like leapers for it!! lol

Ruby, I think it is very respectable for you to ask before you vape around. I've only smoked in the restrooms of some nicer restaraunts, and a store that belongs to a large regional grocery store chain in the Midwest of the US, but late at night when they hardly had any staff, so I don't think anyone even noticed. Honestly, as far as the whether to ask or not, in my opinion, it depends on where you are, if you are in a smaller in door business, or in someones home, out of respect you should ask, but my only problem with asking, is I think once an anti smoker knows about it, their going to start seeing nothing negative in it (it smells to much, etc), whereas if you just start doing it, you may get a little confrontation, in which you kindly explain, and after the explanation maybe ask if they smell anything (given that you don't puff away during your explanation because I do think that IMMEDIATELY afterwards you can smell the aroma if your close enough and depending on the juice, flavor, how much vapor was put out, etc. ) and when they don't, they will be a little less against you vaping in their esablishment. Who knows, maybe even as e-cigarettes become more popular, certain establishments will be recognized as "E-Cigarette Friendly" and therefore become popular meeting places for fellow e-smokers.

I wish you luck on your rode to e-smoking in public!
