WHOOAA there partner. See if this helps.

For everyone else: during all of my ridiculous Canon powershot camera cam strapped to my hat takes I forgot to mention that I am using 36 gauge nichrome.

I use the sterile gauze. I couldn't get a consistent wick using cotton balls like you. I've also done this with the t-tank using a mesh skin to give it some rigidity but no mesh at the coil.

The large tank setup works fine for Me....the smaller tank setup has absolutely zero air flow when the outer sleeve is screwed down....no air holes are plugged...anyone else have this problem?

That would because the small tank is either creaping up cutting off the air flow, or your drip tip is contacting the inside tank closing off the air flow. Do this test, remove the drip tip and see if you have air flow (hot piping it) if so them it is your drip tip. If no air flow then look at the tank, is it flush cutting off the air flow, if so reseat the tank and try again.

For those who wanna drip.

PKay drilled out the hole 3/32's and rolled a bigger wick. a little better not as good as line or defcon or CE2 yet. sweet flavors seem acrid and bitter. going to try tobacco flavor.

BTW i have been using the ghost tank, continued to do so after drilling and re-rolling. still tasted bad... then I switched to the SS tank and now it is a little better. Still questioning the cost benefit ration of wasted mesh, kanthal and time. I m up to 9 hours of futsing with this thing. Had I not waited so long for this thing....... :(

Ok, you ever see the movie "Big" with Tom Hanks, the part where he says "I don't get it?"...that's me with this G-Tank...

I've tried several times redoing the wicks, coils, different sizes, etc. but I always get the GLOW on the top piece of wire from the positive screw to the top of the wick, no matter how much I adjust, or if I use the PTFE in the bottom cap...and I thought Calculus was hard.

I've previously watched and continue to watch several coil making vids over and over and over again and feel like I am doing the same thing but apparently I'm not. For my G-Tank, it seems I have to really screw down that positive screw down hard or else it won't fire but then when I do that it really tightens the wire against the mesh so have to keep adjusting, adjusting and adjusting until it fires without tightening the coils so much. I finally got it to not do the GLOW and the ohms went from 1.7 to a consistent 2.4 and seemed to be working until the wire came off the positive screw :(....so gonna try to take a LONG break and come back to it later.

I just don't get it, I know I am still new to this genesis wick but I've rolled so many different sizes, I drilled out the spike using the 3/16ths drill bit, I've folded the mesh so no frays are exposed, so don't know if I am stupid or if this is just the learning process associated with genesis attys, hoping it's the latter.

Anyway, good luck to those having similar issues and I really enjoy seeing everyone's feedback, suggestions and ideas...I might have to try the cotton ball wick idea but just don't like the whole charring of the cotton as that is a reason I wanted to get away from cartos but even though if I NEVER get this down, the thing is beautiful and maybe the G-Tank Mini will be easier\better?

Thanks,

Thanks,

I don't know ED, I am not an "expert" but definitely ADVANCED, and am having massive issues. For instance it was vaping like CRAP with clear tank and switched to SS 5ml tank, didn't change ANYTHING else and now it is working "better" still not as good as my poor mans line. I guess the is some hockus pockus to it! :) Try turning in circles CCW 3 time while snapping your finger and reciting Psalms 23:4 Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me, then put everything together and vape!

Is this the Tank for cone top? Ego T type B

EGO-TANKS-LARGE-TYPEB-2T.jpg

Looks like them to me, I got the B ones and that's what they look like but pictures can appear larger than they really are, just make sure whatever ones you get they have Type B on them....but I haven't had much luck using mine....

At this point I might try your suggestion LOL...good luck and I feel better that a more experience person is having similar issues.

I am really looking at the poor man's line as well and thinking about getting one of those or try building one myself just not sure yet...and hoping the Scuba Mini isn't this finicky....

Ed, a couple of things, how many wraps of which gauge have you got? Too low of a resistance and exposed ends of kanthal can glow as it is running hotter. Also, does the distance from the post to the wick seem far? You can minimize this by mounting the wick slanted so that the negative run is shorter and the positive too. The wick will be crooked but when you put the top on it will bend slightly to go through the hole. The downside of this is the wick will be pushing on the coil and will be tighter, so be aware.

Ed, you can do this!

Uhh, you mean 3/16" or 3/32"?

I have to say that fine tuning the GTUS is more like art than science. I have had mine since the first release of 22, and although I don't have it here with me in Afghanistan (didn't want to risk trying to get it through Kabul airport again), it is still my preferred device.

No matter how many videos you watch or write-ups you read, its the finesse in all the different variables that makes the difference. When you are trying to fine tune this thing, change one variable at a time and see how that affects your experience before changing anything else. Something as simple as lining up the air hole, or loosening your coil wraps can change a great vape to dry hit city, or a mediocre hit to blow your socks off. Also remember that no two coils will ever be the same, and for me at least, every one needed slight adjustments to bring them back in-line.

This device is OUTSTANDING for anyone that wants to be able to customize their vaping, but its more akin to a racecar than a daily driver. Once you figure out how to get the basic setup, you will need to tweak and tune it for perfection. It isnt something you can just sit in and turn the key, it takes practice and patience (and for me alot of Kanthal and mesh) to make it enjoyable. But the end result is all mine (with thanks to Dan of course). I made that coil that blows the doors off a carto. I rolled that mesh into the perfect wick. I tuned this fine piece of stainless into the ultimate vaping device.

That is the goal, and it is achievable. But it does take a fair bit of dedication to get the results you are looking for. Keep working with it, shorten the wire, decrease the voltage, change the wick size or material, try new things. I guaranty that the second you hit that perfect vape, you will Love It!!! And best of all... It will be ALL YOURS!!!

That's some poetry right there brother! I've just recently found that perfect setup and I'm definitely in love! Like you said, it's a bunch of little details that all work together to get it right, but man is it worth it when you do. And stay safe over there!

Oh, and clean that place up a little before I get there, would ya? JK, lol!

Let me toss in one more tidbit that helped me get it going...

Roast the SS wick. Play with the torch and get the hottest flame you can get. Turn the mesh red, and keep it red for 10 seconds or longer...do it at least 4-6 times. I have a Line, and it didn't need to be oxidized like this beast needs it. I was having glowing coil problems too, and was pulling my hair out trying to figure out why. During my fit of anger, I torched the living hell out of the wick and when I was done....everything started to work like magic. This may not be the ultimate fix for everyone, but it appears to be the cause of my frustration.

I have to agree with this. I torch the hell out of mine, probably 8 or 9 times. My wicks are black as coal when they're done. Also, make sure that none of your coil wraps are touching each other, or close to touching. I've had some issues with this from time to time.

Couldn't have said it any better, the GTUS is the Rubik's Cube of RBA's, get the greens all on one side, and you screwed up the yellow side you just got, lol...but when worlds align it's astounding, it's a tweakers device and to me that's it's value.

Well I tried again, I torched the wick for at least 5 to 10 minutes making sure to get every nook and cranny and ensured to let each part GLOW RED for at least 30 or so seconds at a time. Setup the coils, they weren't touching and had to tweak it a lot as every time I connected the wire to one of the connectors it either pulled the wire too tight or it loosened the coils, so got it setup, fired away and guess what, the small top wire section (from positive post to the top of the mesh wick) DIDN'T GLOW immediately like before...BUT now the bottom small section (from negative post to the bottom of the mesh wick) is GLOWING...LMAO. I adjusted the coils and wick again and even tried torching again initially without quenching and then with quenching but same results. This piece was 30 mm x 35 mm, I folded the end so there would be no frays but it seemed there were some from what I could tell, so I even cut those off, re-torched and still same result. Oh I am using Kanthal 32 A-1 wire as well.

So I tried the cotton ball method and guess what no glowing at ALL so guess I am not preparing the mesh good enough and not sure what step I am missing, what I am not doing right..... However the taste using the cotton ball was very very faint, no TH and little vapor. I'm not sure if I wrapped the coil too tight but no matter how soaked the wick was, it would really snap, crackle and pop while firing, like fireworks. The remaining cotton part of the wick was definitely too large and I couldn't get it through the spike hole so tried it out with the dripper setup.

Oh well....guess it's time for another break to re-focus. However now I'm thinking I don't need to mess with the poor man's Line or trying to create one myself as I am assuming the issue I'm having is preparing the mesh wick so am I correct in assuming trying this atty would produce the same results?

Thanks everyone for the help\support....I am determined not to let this thing beat me but it's kickin my #$@ right now...

ED,

If you go back to the SS wick, I have found that wrapping the coil requires alot of consistency. What i have done is wrap it snug, but not tightly. Before I install into the base I twist on the mesh in the coil. it should turn with a little resistance. Then when I install into the body I lean the wick away from the positive post at about a 75 degree angle so when I tighten the screw it draws the wick back into alignment without tightening my coil. If it doesnt line up right I loosen and try again. Then when you fire it and you get glowing (and sometimes you will) you can twist the wick slightly to change the locations the coil actually touches the wick. Put a drop of juice on it and hit it again. The juice will leave a residue that will prevent shorting in that spot (somewhat). Do this until you dont have any shorts. This should help with your shorting issues a little. Its a starting point and you can take it from there.

Like I said I haven't had my hands on my GTUS for 3 months now so I haven't tried the cotton wick yet. I will try and find a link to a method I found a long time ago that involved folding the wick before wrapping it with your coil. I imagine this will allow increased fluid available to the coil while fired. Think of the cotton strand in the shape of an S with one long end that will go up through the feeder hole and the coil wrapped around the 3 folded sections.

Hope this helps some.
