that stuff is absofreakinlutely awesome now how to make it work for our application

this stuff is really expensive

From what I have read it is expensive. But for the amount that one would need for a wick it really would not be that expensive. I am thinking a thin rod would do the trick.

Actually you can make aerogel out of silica. We made a formulation in college. Quite difficult but can be done. The problem is the silica becomes very friable and I don't think any of us really want to be inhaling glass particles intentionally. The production is really still in its infancy as of right now but in a few years who knows.

Other thinks can be used to make it as well, carbon being one I can remember. So far all I can find is sheets of it made for insulation purposes and fire ......ation. Will keep researching this.

Attached below is a picture of the clear tank made with the vinyl tubing (sorry, it's a cheap cell phone pic). It ain't perfect, but it was cheap and easy. It's a snug fit onto the threading. I made the top with a beveled washer. I just drilled the center hole out a little larger to fit the drip tip. The biggest problem is that it's fatter than the base, as you can see in the pic. Obviously, this particular pic is with the GLV, but it fits the GTUS the same. It actually doesn't stick out as far on the GTUS, but it still sticks out. Personally, I like the look better with the metal tops, so I just did this for fun, but I thought I would throw it out there as a cheap and easy alternative.

Over the weekend, I stumbled across a piece of clear plastic tubing that I had purchased at Ace Hardware for some long-forgotten project. Turns out, it fits the GTUS and the GLV perfectly, with no need for the solder dimples. It's a little thick and sticks out beyond the base, but it works. I would post pics, but I left it at home. I will post some later. It's the clear, flexible tubing, which you can buy very cheap in short lenghts. I'll post some pics when I can.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't aerogel incredibly brittle? You'd have to be really careful with it, and I believe you'd have to handle it with gloves as it will literally suck the moisture from your fingers.

I think I'll stick with SS mesh. :)
youtube search aero gel the guy handles the stuff without any gloves

Nope, not yet, eastman. There have been a few hiccups pushing the timeframe out quite a bit. The faulty parts are back at the machine shop being corrected right now. Hopefully we're getting close, now :)

Okay GHOST PROTOCOL!!!!!!!!

Waiting on responce from Joker to officially start the coop. Got the quote back from shop. For 2 tubes(1x40MM, 1x50mm) and 2 end caps/tube plug with hole for standard 510 drip tip. Cost is a little morethan I would have liked but approx 20$+shipping. I was quoted for 50 sets(100 tubes and 100 washers). If I get MORE than the price goes down. I should get delivery within 1 week of placing the order and then 1 week to ship. I work 3rd shift so I have a backwards shedule.:.......................
okay I heard back from joker the coop is a go. I'll be posting it in the next day or so
