my condo is in the middle of the "poop" zone. if you leave, they wont let you back in without 100 pieces of ID.

There's riots and heightened security and riot police actions at nearly every G8 or G20 summit.....

it was really a rediculously stupid act to have it in the center of downtown Toronto....

they spent something crazy like a billion dollars on additional security and riot shields, and a giant freaking fence.... yeah they pretty much knew...

Little confused here myself. I understand that there is some protesting regarding the G20 and there is tons of extra security in place and a large police presence. My understanding is most of the law enforcement is Canadian. What do you mean US Martial Law? I also don't understand what you mean by you lost your home for 6 hours? I sounds like you left and you came back and couldnt get back into the area without proper ID. Knowing this I would think today you would be more prepared.

If I am assuming incorrectly then please elaborate.

It's not just some protesting... there's been rioting, fires, vandalism, etc.

There will always be those that exploit any opportunity to do some damage. I'm always willing to get behind protesters, even those that commit non-violent civil disobedience.

The petty thugs that attend all G20 meets though are worthless and do a great disservice to the real protesters.

Exactly, and all this happening in BA's neighborhood. Could you imagine this happening in your neighborhood? Watching stores you go to on a regular bases being vandalized and looted? I'm not surprised that he had an emotional reaction to the experience. I had an emotional reaction to his experience.

I think we all get complacent. I don't have to worry about a roof over my head, where my next meal is coming from, or being injured or killed from violence in the streets. It's hard to imagine what it might be like. It seems like BA had an understandably visceral reaction to the situation and wanted to share it with us. So what do say we cut the guy some slack.

As for everything else he said, TRUE!! These 'protesters' are PROFESSIONALS. Know where they GET a lot of them from? Tent cities! They get homeless people to jump on in for something like $20 and a bottle of something. They rile them up by flaring up their anger at 'society' for 'letting THEM down'.

Now, before someone jumps on ME and tells me that they DID, 95% of the time, they have ZERO interest in help. I worked as a Paramedic and TRUST me on this.

Thank GOD I retired and I didn't have to spend MY day getting yelled at and having stones thrown by people that DON'T have a JOB and, in some cases, have come from as far as the States or BC just so they can disrupt MY city.

And now they're crying that they've been arrested and maybe they got some tear gas sprayed at them JUST because they were hurling ROCKS at cops and smashing out windows.

And another whole thread where the OP had called me the same name and called me stupid is gone.
And he called the whole US names.
And he blamed the US for the problems at the G20.
Those of you who are arriving to this discussion now have missed all of the fun.
I can see being upset about the situation, but he went way beyond reason.

It seems that BA has been temporarily banned. I think it's ironic that he would get banned for speaking out about protests.

I don't believe a reiteration of what has now been corrected is necessary and will only incite further upsetting responses.

I also don't feel the need to close the thread but don't want things to get ugly with blame or "further" unnecessary harshness with an international affair affecting the locals when the OP's digressions has already been taken care of.

Play nice please people..... this is a frustrating time for all and finger pointing will accomplish nothing for the actions of a few instigating trouble maker demonstrators.
