New Gallup Poll finds more young adults vape (20%) than smoke cigarettes (16%), finds:
- 9% of US adults regularly (2%) or occasionally (7%) vape, including 20% of 18-29 year olds, 9% of 30-49 year olds, 7% of 50-64 year olds, and <0.5% of those 65+,
- 20% of US adults regularly (13%) or occasionally (7%) smoke cigarettes (a record low), including 16% of 18-29 year olds, 23% of 30-49 year olds, 26% of 50-64 year olds, and 10% of those 65+,
- 16% of US adults smoked a cigarette in the past week (a record low),
- From 2016-2018, 17% of US adults smoked a cigarette in the past week, including 15% of 18-29 year olds, 20% of 30-49 year olds, 24% of 50-64 year olds, and 8% of those 65+,
- 5% of past week smokers vape regularly, as do 3% of exsmokers, and 1% of never smokers,
- 24% of past week smokers vape occasionally, as do 5% of exsmokers and 3% of never smokers,
- 38% of adults inaccurately believe vaping is “very harmful to health”, including just 22% of 18-29 year olds, but 40% of 30-64 year olds, and 48% of those 65+
