Can't get the gem to stop leaking, leaks a lot on the initial fill, and continues to leak and gurgle throughout the entire tank (regardless if I blow through the air hole to clear out). I think I'm doing everything right I close the air hole fill 90% close the top cap nearly all the way then flip over and open air hole then close the top cap completely. Any tips??

Try,
close the air hole
fill 90%
close top cap 100%
flip over and let sit for 5 min.
and,or need more wick.

You definitely need more wicking material, as @aarcoleo correctly opined. Both within the coil and especially at the tail ends.

Ps.: Nearly a year now, my GEMS never leaked.

also check to see if the top fill o rings are seated properly

I personally close top cap most the way, twist upside down and finish closing top cap, then I open the AFC and let it sit upside down and equalize while I put the cap on my juice, wash my hands, up any extra or whatever...then I turn back over and put DT in and on to the mod it goes...no leaking so far.

Got mine today. I'm a little annoyed by the oil residue taste. Kinda a disappointment. I've never had to clean a high end atty before. Other than that, this atty is freaking awesome!

Wow, I had exactly the opposite experience, though I was expecting what happened to you since I took delivery of another RDA that had machine oil after it had been worked on by a pro. Surprised!

I used only a tiny amount of dish liquid with a very slight "scrub" ending with no machine oil taste at all.

"You rolls your dice and you takes your chances", huh?

I clean all my atttys pretty thoroughly with soap and a SoniCare toothbrush (got an UltraSonic cleaner recently, going to start using it), so I don't know if there would have been a machine oil taste. I had a little dust or dirt on the metal tank, but nothing major that I could eye on anything (those metal tanks were probably machined a few month a ago, huh...lol)

A buddy of mine (you know who you are, Oscar The Grouchin' it) didn't even clean it at all, got right to the vaping with no complaints [emoji14]

Every GEM is cleaned twice before packaging. MB has a dedicated desk to do that. Firstly soap washed with O-rings / insulators / et all ~ dried / wiped ~ Assembly checked. Then it goes thru a US cleaner.

Maybe an ant peed on my gem.

I did have to open up the juice holes a tad. I tried 3 different sizes of wick and it was getting a little too dry for my taste. Now the wick stays nice and juicy how I like it.

I run all my attys with 7/8 wraps, 28AWG Nichrome, +/- 1.2 Ohms. Including my GEMS.

Yes I did 8 wraps, 28 gage and came out to 1.3 ohms. Vaping nice at 14 watts. What is an average desirable range (watts)?

I'm vaping at 15watts, lovin' it (and I usually vape 17-20w), but definitely don't need the power in this thing, it cracks a flavor whip down low [emoji14]

Yep, just kicked it up to 15 watts, slightly warmer and brought out a bit more flavor. Thanks!
Just got mine today and right now I picture a bunch of lucky GEM owners all over the country vaping away on their new GEMS.

Got mine today as well and gave it a thorough cleaning as I do all my attys regardless. Mine was already probably clean enough to vape out of the package but the drip tip was another story completely. I ran 4 q-tips through it and turned them all black before it was finally clean. Maybe that's where the taste you're getting is coming from?
