I just bought a Genesis Cobra (finally in stock ). However I'm new to the Genesis style atomizer. First off I'll say any guides on SS mesh wick creation video or otherwise are welcome, I've looked around but haven't seen much (enough to know how to do it, but nothing advanced/tips/tricks).

My real question is: what SS mesh wick should I start with (325?400?500?) and what PG/VG ratio works well with the Genesis style (I'm assuming 50PG/50VG and 70PG/30VG would be good?).

Thanks in advance! :2cool:

You could use any juice ratio that you have. from 100%pg to 100%VG, it'll all wick, it's just that PG will wick alot quicker than VG. You can always use the "genesis tilt" method to help the wick process.

i use 400 mesh mainly, but 325 and 400 have basically the same wicking capabilities. 500 seems to be gaining popularity, i have some but haven't used it yet. When using 325 and 400, its good to leave a center channel to help with the capillary action. 500 is said to not need that center channel.

In the end, it's up to you what you want to use.

I have a suggestion for you. Become a verified member ASAP, there is a co-op buy for some 500 mesh going on right now in the co-op planning section. Hop on that quick for a good deal on 500 mesh from a US made supplier, it's almost at the point of going live but you will have to wait and it wont be instant. The mesh that comes with the cobra should be able to hold you over until the co-op goes active.

Thanks. I figured as much on the liquid. I'll probably stick with higher PG since I like the better throat hit anyway.

As far as the mesh goes, I've always heard conflicting information and never knew which would be the best for me (using a Cobra, using higher PG juices, looking for great throat hit but not overwhelming obviously). I've heard that 325 is best for thicker juices:

VaporChase Tutorial - How to Make a Stainless Steel Wick - YouTube

And then I've also heard it doesn't matter and that they all wick the same, but that 325 has stronger throat hit:
Z-ATTY-PRO Rebuildable Atomizers For ProVari - YouTube

So is 325 truly better for PG (for reasons unstated in the first video) or would the combination of PG with 325 have overwhelming throat hit (for reasons stated in the first video)?

Also, according to:

http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/fo...ore-you-sell-your-genesis-style-rba-read.html

http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/modding-forum/330407-500-ss-mesh.html

They think a tight 500 is better for everything (which is the complete opposite of both of the above videos). I'm so confused.

I have the coils down (at least I think so) thanks to this video:

FunkyVapes - The Perfect Genesis Coil, Every Time! - - YouTube

However, who is the "scott" that he refers to @ 0:44? I'd be interested in watching his wick prep video for the hell of it based on his recommendation.

I actually applied to be verified yesterday (not approved yet) and saw the link for that co-op in another thread:

How long till it goes active (just a guess)? My Cobra is still a couple weeks out I'm sure thanks to customs but if the co-op won't be until after that I'll make other plans (follows people's advice here based on this post, or just go with a tight 400 SS for now or something).

Thanks for the heads up. :)

Well co-op is currently taking back up orders only, so might be a slim chance to get lucky in case someone drops out. Either way Im sure you'll be fine sourcing out another spot to get mesh from. Good luck!

Its already said sold out -_-

Weird, it says 42 available on my side. Must be a glitch.

Shoot them an email and ask when they'll be available. I believe you will be talking to Lee, he was really helpful with my last inquiry.

Also, if you're in the US, Phiniac should have some in next month.

In my opinion the information in that 500 SS Mesh thread carries more weight than the opinion of one person based on his anecdotal experience (if you keep watching reviews and soliciting opinions you'll continue to see more conflicting opinions), since BJ43 actually carried out tests demonstrating the wicking capabilities of each different type of mesh and also came to the conclusion that it basically comes down to getting a wick comprised of as many layers of the finest mesh you can get your hands and making it as dense and thick as your atomizer will allow to get the best wicking, and 500 mesh allows you to do that better than other mesh.

That's not to say that there aren't other ways of making a wick, because the golden rule of vaping still applies: the thing that works the way you want it to work is the right thing for you to use. It just means, as far as I'm concerned, constructing your SS mesh wick in this fashion allows the mesh to be used as an actual wick rather than a e-liquid conduit.

Also, that entire thread is chock full of common sense discussions about how genesis atomizers actually work and experienced (and new!) genesis users putting those theories to the test with their own gear (complete with videos demonstrating 20 second vertical burns with the wick/coil staying wet and 1 second hits making cumulonimbus style vapor clouds). It is a fantastic read if you're getting into genesis devices.

okc vapes sell mesh i get 500 mesh, 12inx12in, its like 12.00 dollars or so. i have tried all meshes/ 270,325,400 and now the 500. i use probably mostly vg juices. 500 rolled tight, hardly no center hole has performed the best so far imo. not sure of the diameter of the wick hole in the cobra, but in my devices(did,ac-9 and aga-t) i start out with a mesh size of between 4inches and 4-1/2 in wide by whatever lenght your device is, about 1-3/4. only if you are doing the oxidized wick method, will this amount of mesh work. if you are going the un-oxidized way, you will probably not be able to get that amount of mesh to work. good luck

As of late, I have been using a hybrid wick of 400-500 mesh both pieces are approx 18mm long and rolled solid. first i tried my 3ml cobra then the 5 ml cobra and the results are smoking. with a 2 ohms coil and 70% pg it wicks fine.
a lot of the momentum being gained for 500 is recent, the 500 hasnt been commonly for sale because the belief was 325 or 400 was fine, the videos that conflict this are a little dated. as the beliefe was the 325 was needed for thicker liquids. (this may still be true i dont know)

I also use unoxidised wicks but for now just do it and get that puppy working. the deck on the cobra can seem tight sometimes but it will vape like a beast once set up right. good luck and VAPE ON

for a solid wick around 40 mm
for a straw wick around 20-25mm
