.... Natureboy I am sure he knew you knew where you were from. He is offering advise based on his experience and it is good info.....

That might have been his intention, but it came across to me as pretty condescending... I am fully aware of the issues with customs, etc.. I don't need to be told things I already know.

im sure from previous experience that it was not in anyway condescending. Most of us that have experience dealing with stuff like this are just trying to lay it all out there so everyone can make an informed decision. I have lost a total of about 1400 us to china in missed or lost shipments that have been written off as losses because of bad customs paperwork. I would just like to see this order go smoothly and without harm to me OR taipan, I am sure his intentions were the same.

Nature boy,

I have know way of knowing what you know and don't know. I'm just trying to be helpful to Tai Pan.

As far as paying the taxes, you will most likely get a bill from the carrier, this can be paid, online, buy phone or mail. (depends on the carrier though.)

Also some carriers will not release the package until paid, others will deliver and send and invoice afterwards. I have an acct with FedEx, ups, TNT... so 90% of the time I get a bill, but if you don't have a working relationship with the carrier expect to pay before the goods arrive.

Just my experience, I've been in import/export for 15 years now. The last 5 years dealing with mostly ITAR.

Another reason, I told tai pan to ship with an invoice is to avoid, any headaches he might have with his local government...

I know you understand. Some of the cargo I ship is over a million USD. So avoiding customs issues is a must. God If a package was lost, I'd be bankrupt!

I know these goods are much cheaper, but a headache is a headache and lost with no insurance is as good as gone. (international shipments might also start out with one carrier, and end with another.) Who wants to take the blame for a lost package? No one, they just point the finger, and you sit around with your thumb in your bumb with nothing.

To make some things clear:

I ship all the items private and not commercially by registered air mail. The risk of losses on the way to you is yours, not mine. The insurance by the Deutsche Post is 34 EUR. I have no problem here and can do what I want.
The only carrier engaged are the Deutsche Post and the USPS in your country.

My question was:
Shall I include an invoice or not?
Or I declare the content as samples and leave the value out?

In Germany, in a case like this, the custom will see the payment slip. When they control. A lot of parcel passes custom uncontrolled.

so long as there is insurance enough to cover in case loss there is no problem with marking as samples. but for people that ordered multiple kronos and atty's it might pose an issue if the package is lost. I have a total of 5 A2's and all have been delivered fine, but in case of an anomaly I would see that there is enough insurance on the package to cover the loss in case.

One way or the other I would make sure that there is tracking/delivery confirmation to make sure that you are covered against fraud.

Registered Air Mail - the receiver has to sign that he got the goods.
If the goods don't arrive the German Post pays 34,00 EUR. There is no way to raise up the insurance for this kind of transport. The only possibility is a parcel. There the carriage fee starts at 34 EUR with 70 EUR insurance and 51 EUR with 500 EUR insurance.

But I have sent a lot and never lost a registered mail.

Well, I don't know about shipping through customs, and not going to pretend I do. But I will say I don't have money to throw away...so what ever it takes to get my order here is what works for me. But I don't like the thought that if my package is lost or something else, that I am just out for the money I spent.

Tai, I trust what ever you decide to do.

Tai listed the shipping prices above. If you want "what ever it takes to get your order here" without you being out of pocket if it doesn't, then it looks like you will need to pay about $48 shipping + box?

[edit] I did NOT mean to imply that Tai is *offering* any options on shipping. Just that it usually doesn't make sense if the carrier is reasonably reliable and the cost to insure approaches the vaule of the item(s) being insured.

If you want to go the cheapest easiest way passed us customs...

3 invoices that state the goods are samples.

NLR - No License Required.
Do not insure.

That's it...

Just my own experience.
