Hi!

I've done hours and hours of research and have decided that the time has come for me to get into RBAs/RDAs. I own a Provari v1 and an itaste SVD.

What I've come to is that I'd like to get started with something like an Igo-l (or Igo-w) or maybe even a Nimbus. I'm leaning more toward the Igo-W/Nimbus for the dual post setup and push posts. I'm not sure if that's what you call it, but the way you can push on the post to thread the wires instead of using screws.

Due to not using a mechanical mod, I am trying to stay away from sub-Ohm coils. I'm thinking anywhere from 1.8-3 Ohm. Maybe eventually a dual clip setup with two 3.2 Ohm coils for something around 1.6-1.7Ohm. I've also seen a lot about microcoils lately, which seems quite interesting as well. I'm correct in that saying it has all of the advantages of sub-Ohm coils, while still being able to run higher Ohms on a VV/VW device?

If I were to get one of the said RDAs, what gauge kanthal should I start with? Maybe 32 or 34g? For wick I am thinking Ekowool in 2mm, maybe doubled or tripled over? What should I use to set up a microcoil? I've read through quite a bit of the thread, but still feel a bit confused.

I'm sure ill have a few more questions later, but thank you for any help in advance!

I'd stay away from sub ohm and dual coils for now. Too many things can go wrong with them, some of which can be dangerous, especially for a beginner. With a Provari, you can start out building coils in the 1.5-2.0 range, and they will give you enough leeway to get you started.
Myself, I started out on rebuildables by buiding genesis type set ups, using stainless steel mesh. Genesis type RBAs are still my favorite types. Some folks are more into rebuildable drippers, which usually use silica or cotton wicks. There are lots of options for both types out there today, so that you can get your feet wet, without spending a ton of money.

I ordered an Igo-w. I'll do a single wick setup with 2mm ekowool. Thinking about doubling over the ekowool for a wick. What gauge kanthal should I use for that Ohm range? And how many wraps? I'm guessing 32g or 34g.

I have a Provari v2 and have been doing my own wraps for some time. I also have a cheap mechanical for those sub-ohm wraps that I try at times though with 30 gauge being my lowest wire I don't get many sub-ohms. I recently did a 10 wrap of approximately 1/16" diameter and it is 1.5. I did do one the other day that showed .8 ohm on my Provari and oddly enough still worked.

it would be odd if it were .8Ω on a v-1 provari but a v-2 provari does fire at .8 and above. the only issue with resistances that low on the v-2 is that your overall wattage is like 11 watts, compared to a possible 15 watts on a coil of around 1.3Ω.

I would not go thinner then 32g wire. imo flavor is increased with thicker gauge wires. you asked what is the wick material for micros? it is cotton, like the sterile type most often seen in the first aid section in your drug stores.
