With international shipping of goods they don't have to.
The customs declaration you make on your shipment states the value, since the shipment originates from outside the EU then VAT and Duty is due and Royal Mail charge for collecting it.

I have some pms and mails from people telling me how helpful my friend Hopefull is with the GG customers.

Nice job buddy!!

I'm sure he's a great supplier, that's not the question or the problem.

The problem is that as a UK resident buying GG products from Australia, quite apart from taking a while for shipment to arrive from the other side of the planet, all purchases are subject to 17.5 of the value in VAT and subject to import duty which varies depending on the customs declaration form.

On a 150 Euro purchase with the shipping and taxes it's quite possible that the cost would be 250 Euro, if sold in the EU it would be 150 + shipping.

would the uk seller have to pay this 17.5% when they get it, and pass it on to the buyer, or no?

Of course I understand the problem my friend Tyke and very soon (2-3 days) The Europe supplier will be ready. That means that in about a week he will be ready to sell:)

Any item shipped into the UK from outside the European Union (EU) has to have VAT & Import duty added . (+ ROYAL MAIL RIP OFF CHARGE)
Unless its VAT exempt .
Its to stop us from buying from outside the EU and trying to keep the trade within the EU.
Most prices in UK are inclusive of VAT unless it says +VAT / Plus VAT .
(VALUE ADDED TAX) Then add 17.5% and prob going up soon

oh ok, so because the gg originates outside of the uk, the vat is mandatory and being passed on to you the buyer in one way or another regardless of where in the world you purchase?

Not sure about supplier/trader wise ,
If say i brought from Greece direct because Greece is within the EU
I WOULD NOT PAY VAT OR IMPORT DUTY
Because in theory i have already paid the TAX on the item in Greece.

If i go on holiday to Australia (NOT AN EU COUNTRY) and buy cigarettes and bring them back to the UK I have to pay TAX on them .

If i go on holiday to Greece (IS AN EU COUNTRY) and buy cigarettes and bring them back to the UK I Dont have to pay TAX on them .

Something like that .

No, as Arry said because the shipment originates from outside the EU the taxes are due.
The EU countries have a free trade agreement that additional taxes aren't due on internal sales as they would have been paid at the port of entry.

Looks guys it's very simple in my mind....

I WANT a new GG plus AVS more that you can possibly imagine....

However I can't have one at the moment without paying WAY over the odds.... and whilst I could pay over the odds... I am not stupid!

Imeo is going to get a EU supplier pretty soon...

The fact is if we buy from some chap in Oz we are importing the GG!

Then we have to pay VAT and import Duty on the product which makes it way tooo expensive IMHO.

Not to mention the guys website has been down already and he has no conditions of sale on his website (the last time I checked). All in all, you are going to rely on Imeo for any faults and have no contract with the seller... not to mention he is 000's of miles away. Imeo is a great guy but you need a contract with your merchant in order for the credit card protection to work.

So guys just chill out and wait a couple more days.... I have it on good authority things will be sorted prety quickly.
:D :D :D

i definitely agree with you here. but distributors aside, imeo, what prevents you from using the gg site, in addition to any distributors you may have, to accept credit card processing, etc. and ship items within the eu and worldwide?
