I recently got rayon wick to try on Tilemahos. Much better than cotton. No more burning cotton and a cleaner flavor. I was hesitant to try rayon. But after some research I realized that it's pretty safe. Funny thing is, I felt the same way about cotton before I tried it.
I used a 3/64 bit to make my coil with 28g kanthal for 0.5 ohms with Tilemahos/Esterigon combo and the rayon was working too good...so good that I had to keep closing the juice control. With cotton, it almost didn't matter how open the the juice control was...as long as the tank stayed pressurized.
I tried to get the juice to flow at a steady pace with rayon but even with the J.C. ever slightly open it seems that the wick was getting saturated quickly, seems like almost to the point of flooding...But it wasn't. Even with the J.C. shut off it takes a lot of puffs to notice the wick is almost dry.
I realized that my coil was probably too big and with the big coil was too much rayon. The saturated wick was shooting hot juice up the mouthpiece as well.
So I rebuilt the coil using a 3/32 bit for a smaller coil and a smaller wick. Using the same 28g kanthal wire I now have a .4 ohm coil. I really don't want my ohms to be this low. But another wrap on the coil turned out to be 0.9 ohms and my main target for a mech mod (which is the Esterigon/Tilemahos combo) is 0.5-0.7 ohms which I know is a pretty narrow range, but with the juice I make it provides good throat hit.
I'm still waiting on the Ti-wire from ESG and I hope that will do better. Perhaps the GG family has some tips on building coils using rayon.
A side note....With cotton, I was not putting wick down the channels but with rayon it seems like it doesn't matter since it wicks the juice really well.
[emoji4] Sorry, I'm not trying to turn the Tilemahos thread into a rayon thread...Just looking for pointers of using rayon inside Tilemahos.
