When I was starting in DIY, I went everywhere looking for USP VG. Most pharmacies in my area don't carry Glycerin, or if they do, is in the hair product department. The best deal I found was the Humco USP Glycerin from Walmart at $3.88 for 6 oz. I've been using this for almost a year with great results.

I think the Humco at walmart is the same price everywhere. I've only gotten other glycerine elsewhere when they were out of it and I had to search my small town for it, and had to buy the other glycerine for more than twice the price. The next day I bought a quart online just so I wouldn't run out again. I haven't tried that stuff yet, but I've only heard good things about it.

Went to the new Tractor Supply in another town today. One gallon of USP PG for cows was $22.99

That's what I picked up, and a whole bunch of the syringes they sell pretty dang cheap right next to it. It was a bit strange mixing with it all the first few times knowing their intended use, but I got over it quickly lol.

Just getting ready to start DIY, so Walmart and Tractor Supply are on my shopping list. Most of the time I have no problem going to Walmart. (Although it did look like Armageddon in there the night before the latest snow storm!) Sure I'd love to shop in a nice, calm, safe environment with classical music playing over the intercom but I couldn't afford to buy much in such a place. Besides, I like being able to get the groceries, some copy paper, and the oil to do an oil change on the truck at the same time.

...

I called rite aid and asked if they had any and they said they had a bottle of 99.5% pure anhydrous glycerin, but the guy couldn't tell if it was "vegetable" gylcerin or not (keep in mind I didn't really know what I was asking for either - newbie vaper).

Is this the right stuff? Or is there a difference between plain glycerin and VG?

JSYK - Anhydrous means Absence of Water.

So if a Fluid is 99.5% Anhydrous, it is a Technical way of Saying that all but .5% of the Water has been Removed.

Things are Usually referred to as being xx.x% Anhydrous when the Original Compound contained a Higher Percentage of Water, and then it was Processed to Remove some amount or Nearly All of the Water.

Anhydrous - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

99.5% Absence VG is what Most People Buy and Use.

Sometimes if you go to the Retailer's or OEM's web site, they have More Information about the VG that they sell.

So, I could get this stuff at rite aid and use it to cut down my 24 mg juices?
Yep

Say I have a 15 ml bottle, how much of the glycerin would I add?
Depends on what your target is. "mg" is crappy shorthand for mg/ml so adding ml means the mg/ml goes down. How much depends on how many ml there are for the mg you have.

Example: You have a 30ml bottle of 24mg/ml juice, so the bottle contains 720mg of nicotine. (24mg/ml * 30ml = 720mg) If you add 5ml of USP VG you now have the same 720mg of nicotine in 35ml so 720mg/35ml = 21mg/ml. So you can dilute the nicotine and flavor as much as you like to get the nicotine strength down to anything you like. (Actually the calculation is 20.6mg/ml, but we usually deal with whole numbers with nicotine strength, so I rounded up.)

I have Always thought that if People/Retailers had Used mg/ml instead of mg when describing the Nicotine Content of e-Liquids/Base from the Beginning that Much of the Confusion that Surrounds Nicotine Levels would have been Eliminated.

Omg, lol... the security guy at CVS got a workout this morning as I searched the store for this stuff. He followed me around the store as I went up and down almost every aisle... lol. I think he thought I was a thief but I'm not... Just a curious customer... So, is this the stuff? founded in the facial care stuff it says its a skin protectant... Glycerin 99.5% anhydrous.... Skin protectant btw: I hve read this whole thread and an positive I got the right thing but I just want reassurance cuz it seems odd, lol. I probably wont even use it but now I have it just in case and will keep it with my gear in the event I do decide ro venture into diluting whst I have already ir if I start doing-it-myself :)

Just don't make the mistake I did and ask if they carry propylene glycol. The clerk did not say a word, just stared at me and shook her head with a look, like I was Walter White asking for supplies to restock his lab. Couldn't help chuckling right at her, probably thought I was going to rob them too.

I have used this Exact VG. It has a Sweet, Clean Taste.

It is Thick so you Might consider Diluted it into Another smaller bottle by Adding some Water.

I did feel kinda funny asking for the glycerin. I Hal expected to find it in the laxative section-shows how much I know. Omg, I even said it was for my mom. What a chicken right? Oh well... I got it. :) It is labled USP... :) Now that I got the thumbs up, im gonna give it a shot. :)
Kinda wish I had some flavoring to throw in it, just for fun. No nic in it but hey... Lol...

Rite Aid, CVS, and Walgreen's also carry PG...
It's often used for compounding meds...
Problem is that you have to ask the Pharmacist for it... By it's full name....and usually not the pharmacy tech but the full out pharmacist or pharmacy manager....usually they have to order it (but it only takes a day or 2 to get) and costs about $11 for a litre....

Pharmacist may give you a weird look and want to know what you want it for.....I told them I was having a party and needed a whole lot of lube and showed them the back of some personal lubricant bottle and it was the main ingredient.... Which just resulted in them blushing and them rushing to complete the order and the end of their questions...I suppose you could say for shampoo or conditioner making as well...

Something about the stuff sold at TSC for an additive for livestock water, while USP just wierds me out...I'd rather get it from a pharmacy where it's intended for human use.
