continuing different topic from thread: http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/fo...1283-my-e-cigarette-has-arrived-ecig-com.html

McSocker- Amazon.com has pure vegetable Glycerin- don't get stuff that doesn't say Vegetable Glycerin or has other stuff in it.
Most of the Amazon results for Vegetable Glycerin contain no other information about the product. I've been looking up the resultant brands on other websites based on their photos and much of it is pharm grade, not food grade. So be cautious folks.

Anyone who has already found the appropriate type glycerin, it would certainly be helpful to fellow members if you'd post a link or photo of an appropriate glycerin.

UPDT: From what I've read it seems that Glycerin is an oil. We've talked quite a bit on this board about why oil, atomizers, and lungs don't mix. Can anyone help me understand why this form of apparent oil is a good PG substitute or cart addition?

If you find something different, let me know, but PG breaks down to lactic acid, which our bodies can handle, while glycerine breaks down to glucose, which we also handle. Notice that PG feels oily. Glycerine is no different, as far as I can tell. The important thing is what happens to it after we inhale it. Does it stay stuck to lungs like an oil? Bad. Or does it break down and get assimilated? Ok.

Do know that Dr. Loi had no qualms about substituting glycerine for PG.

Here's a link talking abotu inhaling oils- kind of interesting Medical record - Google Book Search

There's also one link on Amazon for a vegetable based glycerin that isn't pharmaceuticle grade- I spose as long as ity just doesn't contain any iother stuff in it it's fine- I've been using glycerin from Walmart for awhile now and it's not gumming up the atomizer as far as I can tell- Almost All eliquid contains an amount of glycerin- though it's usually low, but I beleive PG is an oil derived from diesel oil I believe- it's a byproduct if I remember right

alsoe, here's an article abotu eclipse which discusses what was in them & it was abotu 35% gylcerin

Machine-inhalation tests conducted
under Federal Trade Commission standards
showed that Eclipse delivers 0.2
mg to 0.4 mg of nicotine while regular
cigarettes deliver 0.8 mg to 0.9 mg.
About 50% of the paniculate part of
Eclipse tobacco smoke — the tar —
consists of glycerol and about 33% is
water. The remainder consists of other
tobacco smoke constituents so that —
compared
with traditional
cigarettes
— a
reduction of
85% to 90%
of toxins and
carcinogenic
agents is
achieved, the
company said.
Eclipse's
carbon monoxide
yield is 8 mg. This is only
slightly less than the 10 mg to 12 mg
obtained from regular low-tar cigarettes.
Because Eclipse is heated rather than
burned, its environmental tobacco
smoke does not consist of highly toxic
and cancerous pyrolysis products such

I posit that inhaling Glycerin is far safer than inhaling 4000 or so poisons from regular cigarettes

in the skin care isle beleive it or not- over by hte pharmacy secrtion (most wlamarts are set up similar, so look for that area) It was nestled amoung some skin lotions- it was in a clear roundish bottle with flip top- but note- I do NOT know if it is vegetable based or even food grade stuff- I am takign a bit of risk using it- but I have read most glycerin for use on skin is veggie based- but hte bottle didn't specify

I just plopped a drop og glycerin on the steel mesh of atomizer, then topped off my cart with my smokin juice & it's rockin with vapor again

This stuff states it can be diluted with water, which I'd imagine if it were an oil, you can't really dilute with water as the two don't mix

Here's the bottle here so you can see what the bottle will look like- same one I got http://www.medshopexpress.com/075439.html

It says on that pdf blurb that inhalation is possible-

I'd liek ot point out that it does cause rumbly stomach- nothign severe- but I note if I do use too much durign day, stomach gets quite rumbly with gas- but mind you, I'm smoking htis stuff very heavily. It woudl probalby be wise to find hte right mixture of PG and Glycerin- reducing the glycerin until it still produces good vapor, but is in amounts much less than I'm currently using- Heck- I drip it directly undiluterd right on atomizer and into my Carts soemtimes.

another note- at hte end of night (Well, actually early in A.m before I go to bed, my eyes will sometimes feel liek they'vegot sand in em- I think htis is probably from gettign the vapor in eyes all day long- I smoke in small semi-enclosed area without much ventilation)

This stuff will produce a longer lingering cloud, a denser cloud, and I think you'll like how it ramps up the vapor in your E-liquids if you add a small amount- My mixture is probably 50/50 PG/Glycerin- but I think it would probably work with 80 PG 20 Glycerin too- just gotta find the right mixture

another note- it will cut down on the taste of hte e-liquid too- so decide how much ya want ot use as it does tend to neutrlize taste a bit- but splashing some extract into the eliquid will help this as well

Not sure Kate- I think all glycerin is derived from veggie stuff & it's probably the same stuff- but ya might just wanna pick up the stuff that says food grade just to be sure- the stuff I got is 99.9% glycerin, & I think that's abotu as pure as it gets

another note- the glycerin helps keep things moist without being too thin, so I believe addign a dab on the steel mesh help keep it just moist enough to work nicely without being so thin as to run down into battery

K Cool- wasn't quite sure what it was- so it looks liek the stuff from HUMCO is pretty pure then-

Justy another quick note- dripping a little glycerin into cartridges when refilling seems to thicken the liquid up just enough in the cartridge so that it doesn't dry out quite as quick too- if oyu decide to do this, you'll see that it makes the liquid in cart look just a tad thicker and moister lookin- I think it really helps extend the length of smokin time when refilling- if I don't use any Glycerin- it seems the refilled cart doesn't last too long until I have to refill again- but with hte glycerin- it goes quite a bit logner

Jamie said to be careful about using pharmaceutical grade glycerine rather than food grade. I was under the impression that pharm grade was purer than food grade and have been using pharm grade veg glycerine in my ecig. Have I got it wrong? Am I using the wrong type of glycerine?
Hi Kate. I should have qualified my statement since I was just repeating something I'd read elsewhere on the board. It's nothing I can personally back up with any knowledge.

UPDATE: I think it was this comment about Vegetable Glycerin that had me thinking we should get food grade product.
Amazon.com has pure vegetable Glycerin- don't get stuff that doesn't say Vegetable Glycerin or has other stuff in it. I found mine in Walmarts in the skin care department, but I'm not sure if it's vegetable glycerin or not- it probably is though as it's used on the skin as a moisterizer- but I'd order from Amazon next time as their product definately says vegetable glycerin- just do a search for 'vegetable glycerin" in Amazon search- it's a bit expensive, but it goes a long ways- it's are 15-20 dollars if I remember right

Naz, my own use derived from a need to thicken a homebrew concoction. The cooked tobacco liquid is runny and thin for use in a vaporizer, so I started adding glycerine to thicken it up. Then I needed to know the approximate nicotine content, so I began adding commericial E-Liquid. Then I wanted "tastes great, less filling" so I added Bickford Kahlua, which has PG in it. The final mix is something like half commercial liquid at 24mg, about a tenth Bickford flavor, and the rest split between tobacco juice and glycerine.

It has a consistency that is similar to commercial liquid, produces decent vapor, and seems safe and tasty to use. I know glycerine is already 5% of commercial E-Liquid. It can be produced in a number of ways, by the way, including as a byproduct of biodiesel fuels. I bought my bottle at a health food store. Note that many recipes call for it, for items that will be eaten.

Like PG, it's a humectant. I haven't had problems with either my atomizers or lungs since I began using it (the first experiment dried out my throat, but I now think I was coming down with a cold at that time; no problem since then).

Just don't think TB guarantees the safety of this! Yikes. From what I know of it, it seems at least as safe as PG, but I can't go beyond that. And rest assured that no medical authority is blowing the red whistle about inhaling PG (course, they probably are in the dark about electronic cigarettes). I'd say worry is more damaging to health than inhaling our e-vapors!
