I've only been vaping for a couple of weeks but love it so far. I can feel my health improving after smoking 20-30 cigarettes a day before. Only problem is the cost for me as I used to get my tobacco for very cheap abroad. So I've decided to mix my own blend. I've watched a few tutorials and feel like I'm ready as I can be. Just looking for any tips for first time users. I'm buying my gear tomorrow along with gloves. I'm going to buy fruity flavours to begin with as they don't need steeping as far as I'm aware so I'll probably try strawberry for instance at 10% Or would it need mixing with other flavours? Is diy complicated in general or is it fairly easy? It definitely looks easy at least they make it look easy in the YouTube videos I've watched. What tips would you give me as a beginner

HI @Vape-king. DIY can be easy and fun. The first mistake people make is to order flavors and then ask what they can make. I would highly suggest you find some recipes first, then you'll know what you have to order.
Look here for some recipes (the first two are the ones I use the most):
GOOGLE "e-liquid-recipes" and look for the website. <-------- look for "Mustard Milk" (strawberry ice cream)
Le DIY pour les Nuls - Recettes DIY - Trucs et Astuces. <--great French site in English (Clones) <-------
Mega TFA / TPA Recipe Thread • /r/DIY_eJuice (TFA/TPA)
Solid list of DIY clones! • /r/DIY_eJuice <--Clones
hic • /r/cerealkillaclone (FA)
DIY E-Liquid
E-Liquid Recipes
For recipes only!!!!!!!

I use these suppliers the most:
Bull City Vapor - Best Prices on DIY e-liquid Supplies (Capella, Flavour Art, Flavor West, Hangsen, Inawera, Flavor Apprentice)
Wizard Labs (Capella, LorAnn, Seedman, Flavor Apprentice, )
DIY E-Liquid, Electronic Cigarettes and Wholesale Nicotine & E-Cig Juice | EcigExpress (Flavour Art, Flavor West, LorAnn, Flavors Express, Natures Flavors,
Signature (TFA), Jungle Flavors, Hangsen, Tasty Puff, Inawera, Capella)

You will need an - E JUICE CALCULATOR
eJuice Me Up - Best eJuice Calculator <--download I use, has some recipes and can save recipes
DIY E-Liquid Calculator Ten Flavors Plus PG/VG Adjusting <---online

Two of the best blogs for DIY :
Dannyv45 - dannyv45's blog | E-Cigarette Forum (has more links inside)
Hoosier - Hoosier's blog | E-Cigarette Forum

I learned from reading everything I could get my hands on. You CANNOT substitute different manufacturers flavors in recipes and get the same result. TFA Strawberry is different than Capellas is different than Flavor Art.. different percentage use and taste. I mostly use TFA, FLavorArt, and Capellas (but I have other brands as well)

DIY can be a blast, but my kitchen drain also knows my creations. START SMALL... 10 ml batches at most until you KNOW a recipe is good. Not every recipe you will find will be worth making, some are horrible.

Good luck.

My biggest suggestion is to start off by just mixing single flavor juices in small batches first. Make sure you can produce the flavor you want from a single flavor before you dive in to more complex blends. It's really hard to figure out where you went wrong with a 5 flavor blend if you aren't confident in getting a single flavor right.

The second thing is to not take it too seriously. It's just some flavor mixing, not advanced chemistry. Don't go slinging the stuff around like a monkey, but don't be afraid of getting sick or poisoning yourself if you happen to get one drop of nicotine solution on your finger either. Keep a damp paper towel or two handy and you're good to go.

Great info all around. I just want to add to PLEASE not use random flavors from the supermarket. You need flavorings that don't have oil or colors added. Some good brands to try are Capellas, The Flavor/Perfumer's Apprentice, Inawera and no experience but read really good things about Flavor Art, Flavor West and Hangsen. You can do single flavor or mix it up, whatever you like. Some flavors test good both alone or mixed, some will taste bad alone but good mixed.

Good luck!

DIY is no harder than following a recipe in a cookbook. But, like a cookbook, writing the recipe can be tough. Ten percent is a good place to start for most flavors in general, or here is a page for recommendations for The Flavor Apprentice flavorings. I recommend small batches to start. Once you fine the recipe down, great; make it in any quantity you find convenient. Since I am mixing for two, making a liter or a half liter at a time is not uncommon for me. But to start, 5-10ml so you don't have huge quantities of something you don't like much. I definitely recommend a juice calculator, here is the one I use. Be patient; sometimes a change in ratios of just 1 or 2 percent makes a difference. You'll find lots more help, and some great recipes, over in the DIY Forum. And I learned how just as I told you :)

If you're going to get into DIY. Now is the time.

I get my VG and PG at Amazon because of Prime shipping.

I get my flavors from TPA (The Perfumer's Apprentice) or High Desert Vapes.

The last nic i bought was 2.5 years ago abd dont remember where i got it.

There is a DIY section here so check it out. They can tell you about current bargains.

Lastly get a good ejuice calculator and learn how to use it. Ejuice me up is a good ejuice calculator.

@Vape-king

I would recommend you buy some pre-made VPG liquid in the correct strength and a bottle or four of flavor concentrate. Leave all the Breaking Bad science for another day.

You will need a syringe or two and some empty bottles (new or washed).

LT e-cigs do the premixed, I would use Decadent Vapours for the flavors.
I never made one good 'single flavor' mix with Capella or Inawera. However, one of the best ever recipes I made included a bit of both.

Fruits do still benefit from steeping, especially dark fruits (fruits of the forest, you know..)

bottles, measuring cups are handy and a set of seringes 1 - 50ml depending on how much you want to make
and pape towel, loads of paper towel

depending on where you are in the world you can get base liquids and nicotine for a decent price
and as stated above start with simple tings 1-2 flavours, not to much (adding is easyer as taking out)
