The amount of crud on the coil suggests that a good supply of juice is getting up the wick to the coil. Restricted airflow could cause it burn. But at such a low power level it would have to be REALLY restricted airflow. If you inhale through the thing without firing is air coming through?

Just a thought here. Another possible explanation for what you are experiencing is that you are actually using a lot more power than you think. Is it possible that the mod is having a problem?

I have the air flow valve open the whole way. Not restricted at all.

between here and there
I don't thin the tails. I just put juice on then and stuff them down in the channels.

How tight should the wick be inside the coil itself? Should it be a tight fit or a little loose in there?
Do you use cotton or rayon? If cotton, then fairly thick but you should be able to slide it back and forth with some resistance but not enough to distort coil....rayon, which is what I use. I put as much in as I can get by twisting it as I am threading it and untwisting it when its through the coil. You should thin the tails but leave a fairly thick shoulder. Tails no longer than barely touching the bottom deck part.

I use the cotton bacon. I can move it back in forth within the coil without distorting the coil

That resistance sounds right. I may have missed it, but what kind of vape are you getting? Does it taste good before it starts tasting burnt?
Tastes good with new coil and wick. Vape it at like 12-15 watts. By the end of the day it is burnt tasting, so I just replace everything.

Also if you would also at least rinse/wash the deck when you change out the coils and the wicking the piece of hardware will perform better and all the bad taste will be gone. Maintaining your gear will also help it to last longer.
Yes I do wash the deck and tank itself. What I meant is I have never cleaned a coil and reused it. I always just replace with new coil and wick after washing out the deck and take.

You shouldn't have to rebuild it everyday though. Seems too much of a hassle. The great thing about making > store bought coils is that they last longer, you know the exact materials, and quality. They should be working way longer than just 1 day. And usually (in my experience), when they start going bad, they don't taste too burnt. I just lose flavor or it's off. Hopefully we'll pin point this and get you right.

Appreciate the help. Hopefully we can get this figured out. I have literally been using a new coil and wick every single day since I started building my own about 2-3 months ago.

So right now here are some action steps so far

1. Use 2.5mm diameter
2 Make the posts/legs longer do the coil sits up higher on the deck.
3 think out ends and make sure when they are tucked down in the channels that the end of the wick barely touched the bottom of the deck
Please let us know how it goes. If you are unsure or uncomfortable about each step, take a pic before proceeding to next step and post it.

We all want you to have a great long lasting vape......we will get there.

:)
